  • Which used bike for NRI

    Hi guys,
    Hope al is well.

I am not much of a writer,so excuse if there are dumb and foolish questions.[emoji85]

I am an NRI, and will be coming back home for vacation soon and doesnt have a two wheeler( have a '97 Enfield, but lost interest and shelved at present).

Buying a new bike is not a good idea as I would b just around for 30 days. I was actually looking at some opinions from friends and cousins and all are vouching for p220. I have ridden the bike once and it blew me, so I am all green on that. But again I thought I would pitch in here and get opinions from experts.

    So here are my queries.

    1. How are the maintanence on p220 compared to Karizma R? Wanted a duke 200,but most dukers might have not run in the engine probably beat the crap out ta them and I'll end up buying a graveyard one!!!

    2. What about the most asked question about bajaj's unreliable engine? Gearbox? Chain sprocket? Or is it just hype?

    3. Used cbr250r and Duke 200?

    4. Suppose if I buy a new bike, how can I store it for long time as I have almost 1 year of gaps?

    5. I'll b using this bike for touring whenever I am home.

Budget can be stretched,so no worries on that. Main thought that is troubling is the storage factor. Can you please guide me through? [emoji4]

Hi Mibin, how are you? Saw you last in CBR250R thread quite a while ago!

      Congratulations on moving abroad.
Now, for just 1 month of usage I would say pick any bike you want. Bajaj will have cheaper spares and running costs though!

        Hi there,
Am okei, still trying to get hold of life and had to drop the dealership cbr.Was terribly caught up with new job and schedules.

I used to browse xbhp for gathering info, but somehow i couldn't log in.And yestrdy I discovered tapatalk and logged in after resetting password.

About the bike, so is p220 fine? And how much would be a decent odo for an used one?

I would say buy cbr 250r simply because you told that you will be touring while you are here. It's a bit dated design but considering your requirements I would suggest cbr 250r

Thanx for the reply mate, but p220 is also an accomplished tourer I suppose, not much as that of CBR, but still a worthy one. And more pocket friendly for one month too I guess...

CBR250R would any day be better but for 30/365 days, it will not be Vfm.
You will have more components to look after, it being a more modern bike.
P220 will keep you happy. Best in class lights, which in itself is a safety feature, good acceleration and torquey mid range combined with decent average shall keep you happier IMHO.

still everyone is missing about the storage part or is it just..remove the battery and store in shade? What about the petrol tank? Have heard it might rust real fast if not used for long time...

In my opinion get a P220.A used one.In olx you can easily get it at around 30-35K.Duke yes its tough to get a good one coz the problem with it is that most of the people dont do run-in and engine is pretty much thrashed from te very 1st Km.Frankly spekaing its very hard to complete a runin properly because of its aggressive acceleration nature.I own one and have completed 1400 Kms.Although i was able to mantain the runin within 5K kms but stil its very hard to ignore the temptation.

CBR wont be a good VFM if you are here for 30 days in 270-365 days.
With pulsar you have a easy servicing cost as spares are dead cheap.A complete overhaul(Except engine though, and changing clutch plates, sprocket,af etc etc) might cost you hardly 8K.

Re: Which used bike for NRI

You'll be here only for a few days and probably be riding for fewer days. So a comparatively lower capacity bike would be better for you imo. And in that case, my bet would be a GSR150/Unicorn 150. Both are mature bikes but very low on maintenance. Offers good comfort and smoothness and also have enough power to take you almost anywhere. Even if you keep it in your home and come back after a year or two, I don't think any of these will require much effort to get started again. Going for a 200cc+ engine for a few days of usage would be a overkill imo.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

                          Hi krishna,
Thanks for the reply, i dont like two bikes you have mentioned as i have been used to bigger capacity bikes. And also my cuz would use it occasionally for touring... so p220 is a better candidate..[emoji4]

P220 is a good one.You cna find in OLX,quikr, and the best part is that you can service it anywhere as Pulsar is a bike which is available in wide range of the country , and so are the spares

Hi guys, am back again. So what happened over the week was in depth research on used bikes and I came across many CBRs which are below 1lac, initial batch which has clocked only like 15-25k in odo...so I guess it should also be a wise decision to buy one provided CBRs have a bullet proof engine. And the plus point, my cousin would also pitch in some cash so that after I leave he can use it...

Apart from the shim issue, is there anything else to be worried for?
And how bad is the shim issue?

Would it burn a hole in my pocket?
                              Thanks
