Re: looking for best 150cc bike below 90k

at one stage i was almost fixed on buying the avenger only for its unique looks.
but a friend of mine suggested to stay away from bajaj bikes.
also the avenger does not have kick start and tubeless tyres which even the lower priced bikes have.

You can't go wrong with either the Gixxer or the Hornet. Taking a test-ride of both these bikes would make it much easier for you to decide on one.

Personally, I'd recommend the Honda Hornet 160R CBS over the Suzuki Gixxer.

      - It looks much better
      - Big bike feel
      - Has more displacement, and more Power and a higher Redline by 1300 rpm
      - Is a better Highway bike due to the Tall gearing and better Top-end
      - CBS offers better braking
      - Better Tyres
      - Has roughly the same economy as the Gixxer
      - Engine refinement is better than the Suzuki

i rode my friend's gixxer few days back and i was very impressed by it.the only issue with gixxer is that here in lucknow suzuki has only two service centres so i feel parts availability and service quality may be an issue.

also should i rule out the avenger street 150.i cant resist its good looks.but i know from mechanical point of view it is inferior.

Every bike has maintenance costs, they will surely vary, but Honda's maintenance is not that expensive. But yes, it is definitely a bit more than bajaj.
Maintenance of Gixxer too is closer to Honda.
            Do not get confused buddy
Gixxer will be a better pick for you. It has a bit of sporty posture if u compare it with hornet. But it is not painful on highways.
Reason for suggesting gixxer : As you mentioned you liked it. So you have the right to buy what you like.
Hornet on the other side too is good bike. No doubt, it is more comfortable as the riding posture is upright and seats are wider, it is 1 bhp mpre than gixxer, that may make a a very minor difference in power. Hornet has a safety feature- the Combi brake system which applies brakes in a "preset ratio" even when one of the two brakes is applied. But in handling, gixxer leaves hornet behind and is cheaper than hornet. So as your budget is below 90, go for gixxer.
The tyres of gixxer and hornet will definitely not be priced low as you know they are wider.
Body parts of Honda Hornet are a bit more expensive.
Also, Its almost 2 years gixxer has been onroad, its a good selling bike.
But do test ride a hornet too & decide.
So, try making gixxer your final choice.

man i just got the shock of my life.

went to honda showroom to book the hornet, but jus as i was having a last look at the bike before payment found out that the whole tank including the cowl is made of fiber.i didnt know about this earlier.
ofcourse the tank inside is metal but to give that hyped unibody tank look the whole thing is made of fiber and fitted on top of the fuel tank inside

now this is a big deal breaker for me.
left with only one option GIXXER.gonna book that only.
hope i dont find anything strange on the gixxer.

Gixxer's tank is also made like hornet. Even fz is made like this.
                    Why worries?
When all bikes are made same?

Unicorn 160 has the metal tank. And it's the same engine used in Hornet. Once test drive unicorn 160 also. I own it for the past 6 months and it comes with full chain cover, so no need to worry about chain cleaning and lubing. It also has the side foot rest for lady pillions.

My friend owns a gixxer. I rode it. It's smooth like electric bike. Honda always have good bikes.

                        But IMO no for pulsars.

                          1)hornet
                          2)gixxer
                          3)pulsar as 150/ 150 dtsi
                          4)avenger 150
                          5)apache 160
                          6)hunk

                          my prorities:

1)superb bulid and engine quality which stays for long time
                          2)mileage around 45
3)maintenance easy on pocket and easily available
                          4)good looks

my issues with the above bikes:

1)hornet: dont want to end up with a flop like dazzler/trigger

2)gixxer: being the first hit suzuki worried about its ASS and long term reliability

3)pulsar/avenger: the known bajaj issues- poor build quality and high maintenance after 2 yrs

4)apache 160: vibrations and sitting posture

5)hunk: i think no one buys them now

btw i am 25, 5'10" and 75kgs (if this info helps in any way)
1)hornet -- Good looking bike with combi braking system which is very impressive,Old Unicorn 160 engine which is tried, tested and already proved its stability in the market, apart from that its BSIV compliant machine, 140mm rear MRF tyre you can go for it as its already superhit in the market as sale graphs are going very high
2)gixxer -- Same as hornet as it provide almost same power with 153cc engine, no vibration and engine is refined, the only reason i would not buy is pillion comfort is not good
3)pulsar as 150/ 150 dtsi -- Same old engine with lots of vibration, can't even think of it
4)avenger 150 -- go for it if you like cruiser as it is only budget cruiser in Indian market.
5)apache 160 -- Good for racer as vibration is there after 80kmph but handling is better than any pulsar and not heave.
6)hunk -- I wish Hunk could come with monoshok suspension, rest is fine with this bike.
