  • Which bike ? Himalayan or Apache 200

    Hi folks,

I am planning to buy a bike. My primary concerns are safety, comfort and lesser trips to the service centres.

I am not a speed enthusiast but I would like to have a bike capable of reaching good speeds occasionally.

I know it is a strange choice between Royal Enfield Himalayan and TVS APACHE RTR 200 and many of you might think I have gone bonkers in comparing apples with oranges. But then heart wants what the heart wants.!!!

Could you please help me out?

    What Bike Topic Approved.
Since you did compare Apples with Oranges, we have to compare them too.

The initial reviews of both Himalayan and RTR 200 are very positive, from those who took test rides of these bikes. But, not many have ridden them and written about the same.

You should be going towards Himalayan if comfort and extended hours of under-pressure riding is your priority, or if you wish to ride with pillion for longer distances. Or if you have a lot of luggage to ply usually on a ride. Or if you tour a lot, specially the adventure kind.

For mostly all other use cases, I recommend RTR 200. I believe that RTR 200 should be the safer bike from the two, due to lower weight, presence of ABS, sporty dynamics (expected), etc. but do get a hold of the TVS tyres before you start riding hard as their tyres are not that grippy, but this might change too...
Both bikes should also be able to hold approx 100 kmph for long durations...

In terms of History, TVS has been proven more reliable than Royal Enfield, so if you don't like to visit Service that often, go for TVS only. But again, Himalayan is a new product, so we need time to conclude statements like these.

In the end, don't expect others to make this decision for you. You have to decide because yes, it is comparing apple and orange.

      A200 vs Himalayan.

Doas Buddha advised us mortals to do. Take the middle path. Get a Pulsar AS 200. If the need arises, just swap the alloys for spoke wheels.

Thanks so much for the advice Samarth.

And considering my height which is 5'7", which Bike would be more inclined to toe my line?

          "Hyper"

Actually, only reason I don't want to buy a pulsar is that there are so many on road. Everywhere one sees, a pulsar greets one.

RTR 200 will be a good choice buddy. Quality wise TVS has a good reputation. If you do a lot of touring, the Himalayan should be good. Decide once you test ride both the bikes! All the best bro! Keep us updated

From what I have read that the gear ratios are rather tall in Himalayan, so no pressure from bike to change gears quickly, resulting in a comfort ride.

              Is that true?

On the other hand, no ABS.[emoji16]

Test ride. Which ever you like, buy it. Take good care of it. It will never betray you.

From experience, never buy a Royal Enfield within a year of launch.

Apache 200 for value for money and safety features like ABS.
                    Himalayan for being an RE.
Take test rides of both and choose the one that suits your needs.

And to answer the question of riding calmly on Himalayan.. It can be easily done on an Apache. If the bike loves to be revved does not mean you have to rev it to redline every time you get on it. I tour on a R15 and ride calmly all day long in 6th gear at 80 in 6k Rpm. And R15 is one of the most rev happy machines available. Choose wisely.

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
