  • 110-125 cc bike for 50km in city/highway for a short 5ft 2inch person

    Hello everyone,

I am from Assam, work in railways(group d), am 27 yrs old and short (5.2) and travel a lot on duty by bike. My journey per day ranges from 20 to 120 km which is roughly 2000 km per month.
I sold my 4 year old FZS today, (+2 yrs with previous owner), due to mileage issues and maintenance cost , which was a good bike, never let me down. So I need a new bike for travelling in very bad roads, forests and highways. I should also say that it will face sun, rain, cold all and everyday , as I have to work anywhere at anytime within 120km distance. I generally drive at 50-55-60 speed.

    My expectations from the bike:

Price- don't mind the cheapest and the ugliest one.
    110-125 cc only
Don't need bajaj, TVs. I like to look at them but not buy one.
    1. Mileage Any where above 60-65 is worth it,
    2. Reliability is the big factor as it is hard to find people in the places I go.
    3. Ride quality/comfort must be good on bad roads/ long journey at 50kmph, less vibrations.
    3. Tubeless tyres
    4. disc brake?
    5. Maintenance cost should be low as can't spend 1/3 my income in bike.
    5. Good pickup for city traffic as down grading from fzs will be pretty hard.
    6.

I searched for such threads but did not find any with recent recommendations.

I liked dream yuga, but dealer guys told me that dream 110, yuga, neo production has stopped and asked me to buy livo instead. Crux r not available too.

So, Honda shine- 71000, has every thing but very costly.

supersplendor- 65000, can I add disk break, tubeless? How much would it cost?y

HF dawn/ deluxe- 50000/52000,both questions from above. I like these two the most because of the price. But worried about ride quality and if underpowered. We have to do physical labour at work, so backpain will ruin my source of income, if I get any. Any other options are welcomed.

So, Please give some feed back brothers, I am really in a dilemma here. What do I do. And apologies for such long post. Thank you.

Get Shine if you can stretch your budget a bit, else new Livo.
Also check out the new Passion (I think there is a version with disc brakes.)
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

I recommend you to move up to a 150cc motorcycle. Otherwise, ride all 100-110cc motorcycles available in market to for that comfort you are looking for.

I would positively suggest you for the Honda Shine 'if' you stick to the 125cc segment. Time trusted and very reliable, this bike is renowned for its popularity among the masses. If you could exceed your budget for a 150cc, I would suggest you the Unicorn (150) wholeheartedly.

You could also take a TD of the Yamaha Saluto & revised Victor & decide. I prefer Hondas thru personal experience. However, my daily ride is a Gixxer

Passion X Pro is having the same 110cc engine from Honda Dream series.
It has better power than Splendor/HF Deluxe from Hero and good ride quality.

Honda Shine is also a good choice.

hello, thank you for your replies. It is a bit awkward for me as i didnot know i opened a thread successfully till this post. I was replying on the "Daily commuter that doesnot compromise on comfort" thread till now.

now about bike, I have bought a 2nd hand (6months old -1900KM odometer) glamour yesterday. it was bought by me after the owner was unable to pay emi/finance or something. it is pretty new. no problems so far, only drove 20kms till today. I am not thrilled about the buy, nor unhappy. the material of the bike does not feel sturdy to me, may be due to my use of heavier bike. or did hero quality degrade after honda split? my main concern is mileage, and seems like I rode 15 kms yesterday for .57 ltr petrol. today, the bike was not starting (may be cold start problem) after 24 hour interval. had to put choke on and reserve on to start. will check the fuel consumption tomorrow.

some of the members have suggested passion x pro. I like the xpro. can somebody say if passionxpro will be better than glamour. I will sell this bike if so. the bike i bought did not come with tubeless tyres and disk brake and i paid a hefty amount of 55000 INR for it.

also, can somebody tell me if there is any helmets from good cheap indian brands like studds/vega with removable/washable pads/linings. my present helmet's visor is scratched so much, i cant see anything at night when cars drive with upper lights on.
                thank you.

Congratulations. And don't worry. You have bought one of the top 5 most selling bikes in India.
Things will get sorted out when you give it for service later.
There might be a compromise in the mileage but you will enjoy much better comfort. Drive it within limits and you will see mileage of 55+ kmpl.
Also, mileage should only be checked using Tank full-Tank Full or Reserve-Reserve methods.

All Honda engines usually have a cold start issue. Even Karizma and Xtreme require a choke to start, unlike TVS,Bajaj and Yamaha.

If you want a light weight Helmet go for Studds Chrome/ Steelbird Adonis. Both are okay for city use and low speed rides.
You should get one in Rs.700-800 range.

May be others can help you if you want a much sturdier/strong built helmets.

You can change just the visor, don't have to buy a new helmet for that...
