  • Am i thinking correctly?

    Hi all

This is prakash from tamil nadu, currently in the u.s finishing up my studies. I will be returning permanently to India in about 3 months and being the roamer I am plan to ride as much as possible. I currently own the latest gen pulsar 220 and love the bike to death.

However, high way cruising on the 220 feels inadequate (strictly my opinion so please don't start bashing me on this). The solution that came to my mind:
1)buy a new bike for everyday riding and for touring and sell off the 220
2)buy a big bike (read not above 700cc or so) for touring and use the 220 as the everyday bike

Options I thought of for 1) are: cbr250r, Yamaha r3, mojo, benelli 300 or 250 (not really), duke 390, rc 390, ninja 300, no enfields preferred.

Why I ruled them all out: not much of an upgrade for cbr in terms of highway cruising though comfort is better and availability of ABS, no VFM for the ninja and r3 (the 220 spoiled making me look for VFM), poor pillion comfort for mojo and duke 390 (wife would be with me for most of the touring rides), too aggressive posture and non pillion comfort for rc390 though I almost finalized it except for this factor which became the deal breaker ultimately

Options I thought of for 2) are: benelli tnt gt, ninja 650, ruled out cbr 650f cause of the almost 2 lakh difference in price (I don't care about the engine sound of an inline 4 vs a twin), none other because of non availability of service centers where I plan to work from and because I do not like nakeds for touring

The only real advantage the gt has over the ninja 650 is the bigger tank. It has a lot more drawbacks in the form of higher price, torque available at higher rpms compared to ninja, being a mountain to move around, higher price, and lower service center network compared to Bajaj probiking (have to really appreciate the way bajaj tied up with kawi through probiking). I kind of like the ninja's exhaust note specially at idle, sounding like a calm tractor lol.

If my ranting has not bored you already, does it seem to be a no brainer that
    a) I chose approach 2 instead of 1 and
    b) I chose the right bike for approach 2...any other options will be appreciated

Also, am i correct in assuming probiking showrooms sell the ninja 650? I checked online on Bajaj's website and there's like 3 showrooms in Coimbatore which sell the 650 which seemed very weird that so many places in a place like Coimbatore (read lesser of a metro than Chennai or Mumbai) sell it.

There seem to be no new owners of the ninja in the ownership experiences forum which is very odd and makes me think it is not being sold anymore

    Query Approved
Seems like you have already chosen the N650. And it is a good choice indeed. I haven't heard any news reports of the bike sale having being stopped! Maybe someone else would be able to give a clearer picture.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Ninjas have been discussed at length in their respective ownership reviews and its been proved time and again by the owners that the bikes are gem.
Also not every sports bike owner will share his/her review which does not mean that sale has been stopped.
Test ride the bike and if it entralls you , go for it.

Are there any other options to consider that is within 7 lakhs approx. (On road) and can be a tourer?

        Thanks monk and chans

          Re: Am i thinking correctly?

Latest developments...the versys 650 seems to be a much better choice than the ninja though the price is 1.3 lakh higher...more torque down low, much better for touring and easily adjustable two-up riding suspension settings. Also has the same probiking service network which is a big thumbs up.

Going through the ownership threads here and reviews but if anyone has any inputs on the ninja 650 vs the versys please chime in freely
