  • Help me Choose a bike - I do not know how to drive one yet.

    Hello,

Past : I was away from Motor bikes since childhood, even in college when friends offered me to learn on their bike I hesitated to learn as I do not want to damage something that is costly. Later, I have chosen public transport to travel everywhere. Suddenly I happened to be a cyclist and since then, I completely lost interest in motorbikes or didn't realize the need for one.

Present : Now, time came for me to get hooked with a girl. Though she supports my cycling, she doesn't know how to ride a bicycle, so the option for going long on bicycle is not an option temporarily. Car is a dream that is far far away. Even in our last date, we had to hire a cab for going to a beautiful destination. It would have been great if we both went there on a two wheeler.

Future : To realize our long distance dreams and have more lovely journey's I finally decided that I should definitely own a motor bike which will be capable to carry us both happily and quickly. Going to Himalayas on RE is my dream, but even that is far away dream because of financial constraints now.

What I know : I know how to operate a motor bike and I would have rode around 80-100 kms on straight roads but I have no experience driving it in traffic or how to handle it in signals. I can drive a gearless bike , but even with that I have to learn riding in traffic first.

What I need now : Hoping that I have mentioned what I need/know, can I please have suggestions on where to begin and then which bike to buy ? and to go with used or new one ? My intention is only going long distances and not for riding within city.

I can afford to have a budget of maximum 50-60 K and somehow have can afford to buy additional riding gear for us both.

    Thanks in Advance.

P.S : - Sadly, I have to learn on my own now. Even I have to get a license. I can ask any of my friend/colleague to help me learn for few times, but I do not want to disturb them as everyone will be busy with their own schedules. Also on weekends I will be out on my cycling events, so that makes it for someone to help me learn during weekdays.

    Query Approved

So Sayi you are finally willing to get a motor between the wheels Great

Buy any 150cc second hand bike you get which is in good condition and learn to ride on it. After that sell it off and get a better bike for touring. All the best!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Help me Choose a bike - I do not know how to drive one yet.

I just read your other threads after reading this post.

If you could go so far without the help of an engine, I wonder how far you'd go with one!

Choose a reliable bike as you're looking to go long distances. Momentary constraints/compromises shouldn't make you regret anything later.

You may go for a reliable second hand bike or go for a lower capacity new bike.
Let Google and xBhp be your friend to filter the bikes. We, along with the info that is already here, would be around to help you further.

Riding a motorcycle to a date or to the mighty Himalayas is surely a happy feeling

I hope your acquaintances or friends help you out with things and do make sure you're ready and able before hitting the long highways!

Good luck with your dreams

      Ride safe ✌

PS- Ride/riding a bike sounds better and correct instead of drive/driving.

        Thanks Monk.
Yeah, finally I felt the need.
Sounds good, I will head this way of going with a used bike. As soon as I get comfortable on it , I will go for a new one.

        Hello,
Thanks for taking time and reading my threads. I like cycling and spending time with nature and hence those distances.
Thanks again for assuring words and suggestion. I will post my updates here, as I go on with my hunt.
As I mentioned above, I will look for a good used bike, learn on it, get comfortable and then will hit the highways.

P.S : he he, that says how alien are these to me, thanks for mentioning it.

Since you are saying you have to learn a bike I would suggest start with a second hand 100 cc bike it will be cheap and disposable once you are good at it then you can go buy a new bike something in 150 cc range.

Since this is just a start in your motorcycle experience you should opt for a motorcycle around 100cc.
You can try Honda Livo as it provides good looks also and you will have reliability of Honda and you won't have to worry about its maintenance . Or go for a cheaper used motorcycle in good condition.

Everyone has to begin at some point and it is better to start with lower power for your own safety.

              Hello Guys ,

Many days after posting this, I got a chance to drive a honda activa I..
In past one week I rode it around 400 kms.

Thanks to my bicycle riding in traffic, I'm comortable when I took it to drive for first time. Yet, I still have small fears like sudden and looud hors from behind suddenly and mainy the roads which are layered. I will discuss about it in right forum. For thanks to all those who helped and I will open a new post with my doubts to select new bike.

                Hi Sayi!

Welcome to the world of motorcycles and motorcyclists!

My suggestion would be an used Yamaha FZ 16. It would be better to buy it from your known people circle.

The reason to buy Yamaha FZ 16. Its stable and composed bike. Seating is comfortable and since the height of the seat is easily manageable for all. It won't trouble you much regarding maintenance.

FZ adapts to both slow and high speeds. U can ride it even in 30 kmph in the top gear. I love the physical dimensions of this bike which is very good to balance and we could ride it stable all the way.

Just test ride the bike before you are going to buy.

                Happy riding.
