Used sportbike for trackdays

    Used sportbike for trackdays

    My friend recently moved to chennai and he's thinking about getting a bike for trackdays + casual street riding (he uses public transport for daily commute).
    He will be buying a 600/1000cc sbk in next 3-4 years and he wants to prepare himself by enhancing his riding skills on the track.

    Budget is 1L for bike + riding gear

    He already owns a DOT/ECE rated helmet (MT axxis) so helmet is not required.

    Options considered so far:

    1. TVS Apache RTR180 @ around 35k
    one piece leather suit from AGV sport @ 38k
    Full gauntlet leather gloves @ 4k
    Boots: No idea: keeping 8-12k for boots
    total: 85-89k approx

    2. used R15 v1 @50k
    one piece leather suit from indian brands like solace@ 31-33k
    Full gauntlet leather gloves @ 4k
    Boots: No idea: keeping 8-12k for boots
    total: ~1L

    3. CBR250R non abs@ 80k
    street riding jacket + pants from indian brands: 13k (no idea if these are allowed in the track)
    gloves street leather gloves: 2k
    boots: probiker boots: 8k
    total: 103k

    4. bring his current bike (2015 FZ v2.0) from his native place
    one piece leather suit from AGV sport @ 38k
    Full gauntlet leather gloves @ 4k
    Boots: No idea: can spend upto 18k on boots
    total: 60k

    Any other option?

    What do you guys recommend?
    There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

    An R15 or CBR150 would probably be his best bet.
    Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      Hi

      I think a pre owned RC200 would be best.
      Indian brand jacket + pants would do fine which must be zipped together. They are allowed in most of the small tracks where the speeds attained are not so big.
      He got 3-4 years for which regular protective gears should fare him well when on a tight budget.

        A R15 or the CBR should be the obvious choice.

          rc200 is over his budget.


          One thing i forgot to add was tyre upgrade. What tyre options are available? are street tyres like michelin pilot street, allowed for track use?
          There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

            OK.
            In that case R15 or Cbr.
            If its a small track then any 200cc will do.
            Any tyre with sufficient life remaining is allowed. ofcourse the make will effect the ride quality and handling but the officials won't raise a finger.

              I have done option 3 at the Kari speedway, Coimbatore. Taken my CBR250R ABS with michelin pilot street rubber. It's perfectly adequate. But to really improve his proficiency, I would strongly suggest option 2. The R15 is on a different level altogether when you're perfecting your lines on the track.

                R15 is a good bet, and I know you said RC 200 is out of budget, but you never know, you might get lucky and find a preowned one in your budget, as RC is a bike made for the track

                  R15 & RC200 are the only super-sports in the segment in my humble opinion. On a track CC doesn't matter; only skill does as long as the bike is well taken care of.

                  If he is in Chennai, I've seen some TVS race suits come up for sale which were apparently used only for a race. They cost about 15K. Also the pulsar can be found for 20K which are the best in the class for the price.

                  There are groups on FB where you can find used gear.
