  • Which bike to choose under 1.5L?

    Hi Team xbhp,
I want to buy bike under 1.5L.
Requirements/Usage: Most of my ride is on City and occasionally on highway.
    I want good initial acceleration/Pick-up.
    Reliable.
Decent mileage must be atleast 35+.
The bike on which i can also plan long tour

2 premimum 150cc segment bike i've in mind are yamahar15s and honda cbr150r.

There are many other under 1.5L
Pulsar 200ns :Engine is not as smooth as of yamaha or honda
Duke 200: Very Good bike, but heard when riding in city engine heats up lot.
Pulsar RS 200: same reason as for pulsar 200ns
TVS Apache 200: Engine is not as refined as of r15 and cbr150r and vibration issue.
Note: These are all my personal opinion after reading reviews on different sites(If somebody own any above vehicle don't take it Otherwise ).

    Fist prefrence is yamaha r15s
Reason i want to buy r15s:
Heard from the reviews and forums that it has one of the best 150cc engine
    Good performance
One of the best handling in the segment.
    Good finish and overall looks.
    Decent mileage 35-40
    Reason against it:
Riding position is not comfortable(after reading reviews from various sites) Price is little bit higher considering it's only 150cc motorcycle

    Second prefrence is honda cbr150r
Reason i want to go for it:
Honda developed one of the most refined engine in automobile industry, and crb150r is not exception.
Comfortable riding position compared to r15s
One of the most powerful engine in 150cc segement (bhp:18+)
    Good high end performance
    Reason i am against it:
Low end torque is very less, heard city riding is pain.
Price tag is not justified, quality of switch gear is not good

kindly help me out in choosing the bike . I am planning for 1st week of October 2016.
Your suggestion will help me a lot in choosing the bike.

Re: Which bike to choose under 1.5L?

I have ridden R15s recently on Yamuna expressway up and down, and I own a Ceeber. Both these bikes are very different. I hope what I write below will help you choose.

R15s is a sporter completely redesigned for India. It gives excellent starts and stops, very much needed in the city traffic. The seat is also very comfortable for female pillion riders, especially if they sit side-wards. But, remember, the initial torque and precise braking will make them very uncomfortable. This bike can only be used be for emergencies for side-ward pillions. Otherwise, the seating is nominally comfortable. For the rider aiming long-drives, it is still a no-no.

Ceeber on the other hand is a sporter true to itself, but detuned a lot. If you are aiming at city traffic, it becomes sluggish especially below 30 kmph. I do not mean to say that it won't perform, but there will be a lot of handwork to do. However, take her out and you'll feel the Honda inside. That said, rider comfort is extremely good. Female pillions, ah, forget about it.

The above mentioned are the differences only, I felt. The other factors, ride, speed, mileage etc are on par and nearly perfect. Since both these bikes are equal except for their character, and if it doesn't matter to you, then consider the availability of ASCs around you.

If you want a Dhoni, it'll be R15s. Come, rock, be Desi, go. R15s is the cheetah. If you want a Rahane, it would be CBR. Classy, slow and steady, good for long innings. CBR150R is a horse.
I meditate as I ride to find a place to sit and meditate.
You meet the nicest people on a Honda.

Re: Which bike to choose under 1.5L?

+1 for R15. Being an owner of a 2 .5 year old R15 V2, I can assure you it is a very good bike, both for city and highways.
The riding position is aggressive but you will get used to it as you spend more time on the saddle.
The service and maintenance is not expensive and nothing ever goes wrong.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Which bike to choose under 1.5L?

I just received my rs200 and I've been living it since... My considerations were also the same. I have lots of friends who has r15 v1 and v2, have ridden both, liked the smooth engine and the seat hight..
Also considered the cbr150/250r but they were quite far out of my price range
Was pitching in to buy one.. Then.. The Rs was released and I waited about an year for the reviews and stuff to come out and hear the verdict.
Took it for a test drive at 3 various locations.. And found its an amazing bike liked the engine and i especially love the abs.. I have had 1 encounter in my time where I know the advantage of abs..
Another reason I went with it is that I ride almost 200 to 250km on the highway and cities ever week at a stretch, from kannur to kochi every week.. On a yammy, that means I have a bad back and stiff wrist at the end of the day, on a cbr that means my break in won't be that even..
Rs200 is giving me all what I need right now.. You should consider it.
Also I noticed the test drive units at the showrooms have much worse vibrations than my personal one... Probably because of the rough handling it gets..

"Thanks vattsy for the reply. How much mileage you are getting with cbr150r i think there is not much difference between mileage of r15s and cbr150r.
Most of my ride will be in city only, in that case i think r15s is better choice."

I'm getting 37 Kmpl on a general mix of 50-50 city-highway. I don't think te figures are way too different for R15s either. Good choice bro. Tell us more when the bike is home.

Test ride a Duke 200. It has a high revving engine, decent fuel economy, upright seating, awesome chassis, nice rubber, large disc brakes and superb handling.
It's 200cc motor is liquid cooled, so you won't have to worry about heating issues.

This motorcycle is perfect for city rides but might need some modifications for long highway run.

Yes, brother, the wrists and back will pain in the beginning. But as you spend more time on the saddle and get used to the aggressive riding posture, the pain goes away.
If you are fit (reasonable height and weight), have no history of back problems and the roads that you travel are good (not like the surface of the moon), you will love the R15.

I tour on my R15; do around 400kms round trip every once in a while, and I am happy with everything. The only problem happens when there are more potholes than good roads, then the back hurts else it munches up the miles with ease. Feel free to ask any more queries.
