  • What Bike: The 150cc Conundrum

    Hi All,

I was thinking of buying a Bajaj Pulsar AS150. But I don't see them much on the road.

    I was just concerned about
    Is it a failed product?
Is there any major problem with the product?
It's just more than a year old now since launch but people says it is just a cosmetic upgrade from older Pulsar 150, is that true?
Should I consider buying FZ V2.0 FI instead of Pulsar AS150?
Is there any new bike coming soon which looks promising than AS150?

    Thanks for your help.

    Need suggestions for selecting bike

    Hi
I am going to buy new bike. I need bike for daily run and occasional touring. I have taken ride of Suzuki Gixxer, Pulsar 150 AS and Hornet. I am still confused to select between these three also gixxer sf. Expectations from bike are:
    1. comfort for rider as well as for pillion
    2. mileage
    3. good looks

Please help me as I want to get my bike as early as possible.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Hornet seems to be better option for pillion seat, mileage. Looks are subjective, but I liked it and bought just 2 days back.

Hornet satisfies your requirements . It has a comparatively better seat , looks as good as gixxer and mileage is equal to gixxer.

+1 for Hornet. A good all rounder bike.
Currently there are special edition bikes in showrooms with interesting color and graphic options.
Take test rides and then decide.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Even though FZ 2.0 is Fuel Injected and ride quality is good but it lacks the punch one might expect from the offerings in this range.

Give Honda CB Unicorn 160R a shot as it looks bit subtle (in black) yet is powerful. While you are at it, checkout Hornet as it has that sporty look and wider rear tyre.

Haven't tried out Gixxer 155 myself yet but IMO that bike falls in the same range.

                  Cheers!

                    Hi Vish2207,

Considering pillion comfort, I hav three options Honda Unicorn 160, Hornet 160R n Yamaha FZ 2.0FI.. all three r gud bikes, though Hornet gives u tht extra power n wider rear tyre, Unicorn a little extra mileage n FZ superb ride quality.. Gixxer out because it's below average pillion comfort. choice is yours..

Failed Product, Quite not. Its just the fact that NOW :-

(1). there are many more options to choose from and (2) people have a lenient approach while spending for a motorbike.

so you see more and more dukes, benellis and the likes and hence people are breaking away from the earlier cliche of, Sports Bike = Pulsar.

Other than that Even you can choose from the available options which agree with your body type, riding requirements and habits, ASC availability, etc.

Comfort for pillion, will be substantial in all the three motorbikes you've shortlisted.

Pulsar 150 leads in Power output amongst the three.
Looks are quite sporty in gixxer and Pulsar, and least in hornet (personal opinion).
Riding position would be most upright in Hornet and least in Gixxer (unless you are tall).

So... the choice is much up to you! Which one did you like amongst the three while TD?

Thanks for approval and thank you all for the suggestions. I took ride of all three bikes. Riding gixxer was more fun as compared to hornet. Will hornet be better for touring and what about gixxer sf for touring with pillion.

True , gixxer is more fun than hornet with a very responsive low and midrange.
If pillion is your priority then gixxer goes out . Forget touring it is not suitable even for city riding. Not that hornet or pulsar are sofa like but hornet Trumps with a large pillion seat along with less inclination.

If pillion comfort is of priority, leave out Gixxer. Choose between Hornet and FZ V2.0. Also, SZ-RR and Unicorn are good options. Might not be that flashy but offers good comfort and smooth engine, Both have decent power for city riding and occasional touring.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Hey thanks for answer. If I compromise with pillion comfort then which bike would be better gixxer sf or hornet.
