  • Need suggestions for buying bike

    Hello Xbhpians

I'am planning to buy a new bike. Currently we have TVS Jupiter and Bajaj platina (which i am going to sell once i bought new bike ) Kindly help me to finalize a bike.

Below is some additional information and requirements-

    Age 30
    Height 5.11
    Weight 67
    Budget up to 75000
    Expected milage 50+
    City Kalyan
Intended usage - majority city commute and occasional highways rides
    Average monthly use - 500-750kms
Should be easy to ride - my father (63) would occasionally drive. He prefers bike over automatic scooters.

I have shortlisted Shine SP, Bajaj V and TVS Phoenix. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have driven my friends Shine, and found it very well. No idea about bajaj v and phoenix.

TVS Phoenix is a dilemma. It is well reviewed by various auto magazines and web sites. But haven't found many phoenix on road. Even when I went to TVS showroom the sales guy was trying to divert me towards Victor.

Please suggest a suitable bike for me.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Along with the above three, you can also consider Saluto and Glamour.

Honda Shine SP should be the first choice, Yamaha Saluto should be the second and Hero Glamour should be the third choice.
All 3 bikes have 125cc motor and fit your requirements perfectly.
The Shine and Glamour are well aged and proven machines, they have been serving people for many years without any problems. Yamaha Saluto is the new kid on the block, but being a Yamaha, it should be at par with Honda if not more.
Take test rides of all these and choose the one that suits you the best.

If none of the above gives you joy, then check out the TVS victor. I would not suggest you to go for the Phoenix, as not many are sold and if the production stops, the spare parts will be very hard to find few years down the line.

As for V15, it is 150CC so, the mileage will take a hit. If you are ok with a bit less mileage, you can also check it out. The initial reviews are good and so far the new owners are not facing any serious problems. Check out the ownership thread to find out more details about it.

Choose the one that suits you the best.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Honda shine is proven and tested bike. You won't go wrong with it.

Thanks guys for your inputs.....I have almost made up my mind about buying Honda shine. Now only confusion is about model. Shall I opt for Shine DX or SP.
Actually I m not really comfortable with 1 up 4 down pattern that Shine SP has. Not having 5th gear not a major concern for me as most of the times I will be driving in city conditions.

How much is the difference between engines of both bikes in terms of fuel efficiency and performance. Please share your views.

the engine is exactly the same, only the gearbox is different. The fifth gear will help you cruise on the highways without stressing the engine. That is all. The fuel efficiency and performance remain the same. As you said most of the time you will be using the bike inside the city, 4 gear version should be good choice, less gear shifts in congested areas and better torque in low revs to pull you in stop and go traffic.

Take test rides for both the bikes and then choose the one that suits you the best.

I would say go for Honda Shine SP (CBS).

5th gear will be very handy to cruise at decent speeds on highway rides with minimal stress on the engine and will return higher mileage to boot.

You can opt for the CBS variant for safety and convenience.

Regular one (4-speed) or SP (5-speed)?

I have bought regular shine (4 gear) version. I could not get TD of shine SP. I borrowed my friends shine 4 gear version for a day and took it to office (50 km to and fro). I was quite satisfied with the bike.

Not driven much yet, about 100km, engine is butter smooth, I feel would improve after few servicing. I was quite surprised to see my bike has TVS tyres.....does Honda started using TVS Tyres for its small capacity bikes ???

Yes, I too noticed the same in honda showroom. All dream series bikes, shine come with tvs tyres in their latest batches. Earlier they used to come in mrf zappers. Seems like cost cutting effect
