  • Bike for 200 KM Daily Ride for Office

    Hello Guys,

I am planning to buy a bike which I can use for daily office commute. One side distance would be 100 KM, 50 KM will be on NH-8 highway and rest 50 KM will be non highway but road is as good as highway. I complete 100 KM distance in 2 hours with my Car. I am 5`10" and weight is 60KG.

    Ride timings

Morning 7 AM -- Home town to Gurgaon -- 100KM
Evening 6 PM -- Gurgaon to Home town -- 100KM

    Features required.

    1. Comfort
    2. Performance / Handling
    3. Mileage
    4. Low maintenance cost
    5. Tubeless tires

Based on various expert advice on xBHP and other forums I selected two bikes.

    1. Bajaj Avenger 220 Street
    2. TB 350

Both are without tubeless tires but Avenger street comes with alloy wheels and decent look. I used three bajaj bikes Caliber 115, Discover 125 and Pulsar 135 NS. I have no experience with RE bikes. Even I did not got a chance to ride TB 350. RE bikes would cost more in terms of maintenance and service as per the xBHP and other experts.
Both bikes are not the final selection. I will decide after taking your advice and suggestion.

    Approved!

If budget (in terms of fuel) is not a concern, then I'd say stick to your car. Else, you may opt for the Avenger/any 150cc premium commuter that gives a balance b/w performance and FE.

      Hello Rider,
      What you need:-

      Features required.

      1. Comfort
      2. Performance / Handling
      3. Mileage
      4. Low maintenance cost
      5. Tubeless tires

50 KM will be on NH-8 highway and rest 50 KM will be non highway but road is as good as highway

The two bikes you've narrowed down are Avenger 220 and TBTS 350:

You have a daily travel of 200KMS highway and non highway but good quality roads. For this kind of distance with permitting roads i suggest you switch your options and go for a bike that can go up to and hold higher speeds comfortably and safely for longer duration. You have the road for it, might as well grab the opportunity.

But if you are the cruise bike person. Consider avenger 220 as first choice, because its liquid cooled engine and can come handy on a hot day with bad traffic. Alloy wheels give option to upgrade to tubeless tyres at anytime. Lower maintenance cost (than RE). Higher mileage depending upon how you use it.

TBTS 350 - Of course!, but only if you love REs because it wont be your regular Fill it and forget it bike.

I have a daily travel of 100kms to work. I am in HYD at present, the road and traffic conditions only allow me to take my car in my dreams. On road I either prefer my TBTS350. But currently taking train to work as there is abundant Asphalt dust pollution with roads eroded everywhere in the city.

Thanks Divya, Yes you are right , I would get more mileage with 150cc bike. But I doubt 150cc could handle 200 KM daily ride and also the average speed 80 to 90 KMPH without vibration. Why I prefer bike over my CAR, The heavy traffic between Gurgaon to Manaser. Sometimes I feel that car is not easy to drive as compare to bike for daily ride and the maintenance and service cost would cost more.

Hi, Thanks for the detailed explanation. So what are other options except these two ?

            Hi neesain

Nice to know that you are planing to ride 200 km per day.
First i would like to vote for Avenger between the two mentioned choices because in my experience even @90 km/hr RE350 vibrates enough to lose open a nut or two

Other option that you can consider would be Yamaha R15, Suzuki Gixxer/SF, Ktm Duke 200, Tvs Apache 200 or if you are open to the idea of pre-owned bike then the Honda Cbr 250.
The above mentioned bikes can comfortably maintain 100km/hr and the maintenance is also nominal.

            Cheers.

Yes, I maybe buying one anytime soon. My reason for Buying Avenger is pure comfort. Pulsars/Apaches aren't built to do 100km+ per day from back/health perspective. Even for Avenger you have to be a little careful while riding around potholes and bumpers....though this is more valid in cruise variant than street as the street variant also transfers some force to wrists and shoulders instead of just backbone.

I am not bothered about the replies pouring down here, rather I am more concerned on the aftermath of riding 200kms a day for next N no of years. You will definitely develop complications. My friends have and they are suffering now.

As a fellow friend, I would suggest you not to commute such distance every single day. IMO, lookout for safer option.

People may say, we are bikers and born to be on the road etc etc...forget all that and when you are in trouble, rest of the world will say 'chooo chooo chooo, so sad'.
