I just bought an SZ RR after pretty much the same journey as you.
Some pointers to consider

Product design wise, the unicorn is a superior product, even I will admit that, but
Service centers - Yamaha are not that great, but consensus is that Yamaha ASC's are better than Honda. If you know a good local mechanic, then the honda is the best of both worlds.
Waiting period - was told had to wait for unicorn, yamaha dealer had the color i wanted in stock
Price - 10K difference was hard to stomach. even the unicorn 150 is marginally more expensive (but you should get it back on resale for the honda)
Featues - SZ had better switchgear, and while most people prefer the digital unicorn dash, i liked the full array of dials in the SZ
Looks - I think the SZ looks a bit gimmicky, Unicorn has clean lines
Finally we are a family of yamaha fans, and since i needed a bike urgently, decided to stick with yamaha.
also , had read reviews about chassis rust on the uni & hornet which would be an issue since the bike would be kept outside most of the time.

I have not used the bike long enough to check mileage, but the sz thread here, most people have been getting below 50, but then again, even for the uni, most people are barely able to make it touch 50

pillion seats - hope your mom has tried out the uni and the sz - Mine couldnt handle even them, and has decided she is too old to travel by bike anyway. she was comfortable with my dad's old crux seat and that of the saluto rx in the showroom, but that was too entry level

Overall it seems you are a relaxed rider prefers comfort rather than pace. In that case its unicorn which better suits you. Comparatively UNI provides more upright position than SZ. SZ is more nimble in traffic when compared to UNI. Pillion comfort is much better on UNI and gives a decent mileage also. My friends have complains about SZ's mileage but its entirely depends on the riding nature and maintenance you provide to your steed. IMO, go for UNI cause it gives a better resale value too.

You can't go wrong with wither of them. It'd be better if you prolonged rides of both the bikes from your friends and family circle. For comfort, quality and engine refinement, both of theses bikes are probably best in their class. The SZ has a little low power but makes up for that through better low-end torque. But, if you ask me, SZ scores better in pillion and riders comfort and of course, after sales service.

I would suggest Unicorn for the large number of Honda Service centers. They are mostly crap, but you can choose the least crappy one. Yamaha have very less authorized service centers hence less choice to choose from. Also the resale value would be better for a unicorn a few years down the line.
Apart from the above things, both bikes are butter smooth, reliable and rock solid, nothing ever goes wrong with them, so the only thing you have to spend on it petrol and regular service.

Both are good. Unicorn 160 does have a stiff suspension. Engine heat is mainly because of thin Honda mineral oil. Rust issues were reported mainly from coastal areas. Mileage should be around 50+ with sedate riding. Most people getting below 50 may not have the correct riding habits or ride hard.

My friend has a SZ, and it never gives any problem. Just regular service and it returns around 45.
