Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
One honest question, Did you take a TD of these 2 vehicles, If not, I suggest you to do it immediately. You will find the difference right away. SF is relaxed seating and comfortable touring. R15s is aggressive, demands more on the seating, you hold it aggressively, you start to develop pains all round your body.
In terms of performance, I cant comment much since I have not ridden SF, but 1 thing I can certainly say, nothing comes close to the Yamaha refinement and top-notch equipment it provides.
If you are into committed position like Super-sports seating, go for R15 (its a mini SBK). SF for relaxed ride on highway and city.R15S - Current

Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
This is just a motion about Yamaha refinements being superior to Suzuki. Both are participants in various motorvehicle sports.
I'll go for Suzuki Gixxer SF in this price range for the looks of the motorcycle. I have thoroughly examined the motorcycle to find a point of not liking it. It is a complete package of the latest technology and the models have been undergoing changes, every new set of motorcycles produced will be better than previous. So that way you can imagine the refinement of this engine which is used with Gixxer also and this model has started before SF come into market.
Instrument console is of top notch quality. Even the switchgears. Recently fi is also added to package. What else do you want bro??
I was to by a Pulsar 220 because of its power. And I have used it for a year. I have done tours on it.
SF excels in handling from Pulsar. The way Gixxer grips the roads on redling, ohh it just can only be experienced.
Take a test drive and share your experience.

Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
If the max you have gone is 50 kmph in your Splendor, and you haven't felt the urge to either check the top speed or ride on the highways, the r15 will be too much for you.
Most of the guys who buy sports bikes love high speed - the thrill of it, the wind and the small frisson of danger. Get a r15 only if you plan to use it the way it's meant to.

Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
if you have the budget for a R15 - go for it, there is no test where a GixxerSF equals the R15, be it acceleration, top speed, handling, brakes, fuel injected engine, liquid cooled engine, semi slick radial racing tires and so on.
Just a word of warning - you will get terrible pains on you shoulders, neck and back for the first few weeks due to racing position. If you are fit with no history of back aches the pains will disappear soon, but if you are not fit - you will hate even looking at the bike. Better to buy a Gixxer.
I have heard people selling their R15 in 5 months because they were not fit and doctors advised them not to ride a sporty bike. On the other hand fit people have taken their bikes to Leh and back without a hint of discomfort. I have a march 2014 R15V2 and tour extensively on it, therefore the advise above is first hand. please choose wisely.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Well, I have a history of back aches. It's just that I want to take a test ride and then finally decide whether or not it is worth the pain. Will be updating in a couple of days.

Then I would advise you to take a long test ride of the R15 if you have a pillion with you most of the time, take a friend along for the test ride.Originally posted by vivekshrma View PostThanks budd!!!

this will let you know how the bike behaves in the real world. Ask your doctor if any exercises will strengthen your core, which in turn will reduce the back aches.
If you have a history of back aches, your doctor might advice you against it, listen to him. There is no use spending any money on something that compromises on your health, no matter how good the bike is.
Choose wisely brother. Ride safe.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Hi, just to add:Originally posted by vivekshrma View PostThanks budd!!!
Well, I have a history of back aches. It's just that I want to take a test ride and then finally decide whether or not it is worth the pain. Will be updating in a couple of days.
1. Yamaha R-15 is a fine motorcycle refined in all possible ways for track like riding for youths.
2. It draws all basics from R series bikes. Definitely not a tourer bike.
3. City rides even if it Mumbai as crowded, the ride will not last for more than 1 or 1.5 hour one way, the way this accelerates for even BTB traffics can be cleared quite easily.
4. Considering all the nice factors which over weighs on Engine, Vibrations, Smoothness, Refinement, Looks, Aerodynamic Fairing, Ease of Handling, Stability-Highly Stable due to Delta Box frame..... as compared to other bikes in this category, this is worth to be considered.
5. Drawback factor is-not a commuter bike, not a tourer bike, average on mileage due to sporty nature (around 38 to 42 km/l, not bad), sporty seating position...
6. Established & best performer brand as far as bike designs are considered.
Hope the above further helps in understanding.Avoid noise pollution. Avoid honking.

Wow.. Nicely put bro!!! I had my eyes and heart set on Yamaha. Now you gave me to think about in a different light. Also, I exercise for my back. If I really go for the bike, I really have to put in more effort than I currently do.Originally posted by Ankey View PostThen I would advise you to take a long test ride of the R15 if you have a pillion with you most of the time, take a friend along for the test ride.

Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
I just told you the perspective of a R15 owner, brother. I would not want any of my brothers to be in pain. I really know a few people who sold their bikes in less than a year because they were having constant back pains. If that happens and you had to sell your brand new bike - you lose 2 things at the same time, your hard earned money (because sports bikes depreciate like a brick) and your health (no compromise on this).Originally posted by vivekshrma View PostWow.. I myself had back aches and shoulder pains for a few weeks when I bought the bike about 2.5 years ago and I wondered if I made the right choice. And I had no history of back pains in my entire family and am lean and thin. But I upgraded from a splendor and active so was not used to the riding posture. Then I researched about it and found out the correct seating posture, the exercises to strengthen the core and muscles. This really helped and the pains went away in a few weeks. Now I visit my home town about 200kms away every alternate weekend and come back. that makes 400 kms round trip every 14 days, and I face no problems at all.
So please be very sure about this bike, take multiple test rides if necessary. If you go to a gym ask the trainer about it, take test rides again to feel the difference. Ask your doctor if it would hurt you in the long run or would the back pains be a permanent problem in the future. If you are sure that you will face no health issues in the long run, then only invest your hard earned money. Else walk away and get something that will not take a toll on your health. No bike is worth it.

Re: Yamaha R15-S or Suzuki Gixxer SF for a rookie.
Since you have only touched 50kmph till now on the Splendor, then why not ride it for some more time and gain some more experince on it on higher speed?Originally posted by vivekshrma View PostThe maximum I have gone is 50 kmph. I know that my control and speed will increase as keep on riding.
During the initial days when we dont have that much experience, we might end up dropping the bike sometimes. Dropping a Splendor wont pinch your pocket much, that is not the case with fully faired bikes like R15.Yamaha Ray ZR Street Rally -> 2020
