  • RE Himalayan or Thunderbird 350

    Hi Guys

I am from hyderabad, i am confused between RE TB and Himalayan as in which one to buy , my primary use is daily commuting with long drives on weekends.
I have to ride in traffic as a part of daily commuting. I have test ridden both the bikes and have liked both. TB i felt was very heavy and i felt it will be difficult to manouver it in traffic, but as per my friends they are saying initially u will find the bike heavy but once u get habituated it will be normal for u so is that true? Please throw some light on this issue so that i can make an informed decision. please also substantiate your reviews.

    Thanks in advance

    Happy Riding!

    Query Approved

As you yourself have noticed, the Himalayan is easier to handle in city traffic. And if you are going to be doing a lot of city riding, then this is probably the bike for you
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Dear SK,

      1. tbts is almost 199kgs in that sense its a heavy vehicle. but its well balanced and in my personal experience and in those of my friends who own diff RE models, weight never created an issue, unless they dropped the bike (which they haven't yet )

      2. tbts though perceived as a cruiser, its not built like one (all it has is a raised tank and foot pegs SLIGHTLY forward, it still gives you upright position). that being said in all the REs out there TBTS actually the shortest in length (same as Continental) and the steering mount is also close to upright angle (unlike a cruiser styled bike like avenger) SO, no difficulty in traffic or tight turns. infact it can cut through traffic like any other bike out there.

      3. whether Himalayan OR TBTS. well this is completely up to you!. which bike you felt more comfortable with?
which bike suits your style the most?

so, take tests of both the bikes (If your choice is between these TWO bikes only) and you shall be in a better position to make a choice.

on a personal note, a major downside of tbts (as per my experience) is it has the most uncomfortable pillion seat. the seat is short and has a back rest which further restricts any extra room for pillion rider.

i use a tbts 350 in HYD for a daily commute of 100kms from lingampally to ghatkesar. got the bike in Feb 2016.

None of the bikes are for daily city commute. Still few pros cons for you
Tb pros: low seat height, comfortable seating position, looks
Cons: below per performance conpared to Himalayan, handlig not as good as Himalayan

Himalayan pros: performance, handling, any terrain bike.
Cons: seat height, difficulty in parking in inclied places, looks

Notes: Both engines heat up during bumper to bumper traffic.
