  • Sportsbike for 15 lakh

I am planning to buy a bike soon.

    1. Budget: 15 lakh
    2. Age: 28
    3. Height: 6'1"
    4. Weight: 80
    5. Intended usage : Weekend rides, daily short rides of upto 50km on highways, decent roads, possibly twisties on some weekends. WIll use a eparate bike for commuting. Won't

use it on poor roads. Nearest track is in Delhi, 150km away. No definite plans of taking to track in place, but would love to learn riding on track if time permits. Practically though,

little chances of track riding FOR NOW.

Bike type: Preferably sportsbike around 600cc. Initially wanted a sports tourer or something like the Multistrada. But I won't be able to make long tours (even for a couple of days)

for quite some time (3-4 years) for some reason, so figured getting that right now would be completely futile, though eventually I'd want one for sure.

With a sportsbike, I can atleast derive fun even on short 30 minutes rides. Yes, time is a constraint and that's why I think I should get a sportsbike.

I have an RC390 right now, had it for 2 years. Before this I had a duke 200 for 2 years that I've since sold. The seating on the RC390 was tough for a couple of weeks but now it feels

effortless and natural. So I don't think the seating/posture would pose a problem.

So far I'm really interested in the Triumph Daytona 675R. Test rode the STreet triple and was totally blown away (daytona wasn't available on that day). The daytona will be even

better from what I've heard and seen. Striple was easy as fvck to ride, comfortable and vibration free, such a smooth engine and terrific brakes too. But wind blast at higher speeds

    was not to my liking.

The problems with the daytona that are making me delay the purchase are:
    1. Possibilty of the 675R being discontined very soon, and even worse a Daytona 875 being introduced in its place. I can live with it being discontinued, since parts are assured for

10 years. But imagine an 875r being introduced 3 months later for a slightly higher price ,that would suck. A street triple 875 is confimed afaik, so the possibility of this happening is

    very real.
    2. The new Ninja 650, z650etc etc being introduced next month by Kawasaki
    3. Time constraints: Won't get much time, maybe 30 minutes max a day to ride for atleast the next 3 years, except maybe weekends where I MIGHT get 1-2 hours and rarely 4-5

hours. Just how it is, no way around it. While for some it might mean that investing in an expensive bike isn't a great idea atm ,I think its all the more reason to get a really proficient

bike that I can learn on and keep riding through the years.
    4. Price: around 14 lakh on road, its a great bike but is it that great for the price?

Options I am considering (in decreasing order of preference):
    1. Daytona 675r (pros imo: everything, aesthetics cons imo: price, might be a tad bit small for 6'1 rider)
    2. Street triple : fantastic bike, not a fan of the looks, otherwise everything almost perfect from what I observed
    3. z800 (never ridden, never seen in person pros imo: looks, size, engine, sound cons: naked, heavy, imposing but not aesthetic for me)
    4. ???the Benellis, ninjas
    5. Need suggestions !!!!

To sum up, only need the bike for weekend rides to hills, and frequent daily short city/highway rides. Needs to be exciting, and an upgrade over my existing RC390.

Which bike to get (open to all suggestions)?

With your requirements, you have only two options. The Daytona and the Daytona

Though do check out the CBR650 as well. It might satisfy your requirements and more.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Check out MV Augusta F3 800, Ducati 959 Penigale.

Augusta only available in Pune, henec out of consideration.
Ducati service centres may not be on easy reach, however worth a test ride.
      Avoid noise pollution. Avoid honking.

Test ride the Ducati 959, after reading various reviews it seems to be the right bike for you.

        Happy choosing!

        Cheers

CBR 650 is a great bike no doubt, but seems kind of boring next to the daytonas and the panigales. I don't know, maybe I really should have a look at it in person. Besides I won't be doing any touring at all on the bike.

The 959 skipped my radar somehow, I read up on it since reading your post and it looks like a solid contender. But it's priced around 3.5 lakh over the daytona and has no retailer in Chandigarh (or there might be, checking out right now), nearest is in Noida and aftermarket services are going to be a PITA for sure.

The official ducati website doesn't mention a dealer in Chandigarh, but a google search shows a retailer that sells ducatis, let see.

Just forget all the glitches !!!

Pick up the best suited geometry and enjoy the ride.

Penigale will not disappoint you the joy of riding anytime on the street....

Given the lovely hills that you have access to around Chandigarh, I think the Ninja 1000 which is a sports tourer would be ideal for you. This bike has a proven record and comes with all the bells & whistles. The on-road cost is around 14 lacs in Delhi where the purchase would need to be made. Only thing is to get the bike serviced in Chandigarh you will have to shell out for a mechanic transport cost who will come from Delhi. Happy and safe riding

Get the Red CBR1000R, it will be a blast to ride in the hills/highways but note that anything over 650cc will a pain to ride in the city streets and can become quickly heated in traffic.

                        Wow. Good luck mate!

Daytona can embarrass quite a few Litre bikes on track.

BTW I just came across this. Lemme know if it's true.

Yeah,I made a thread about it here:

All things considered, I decided I cannot wait anymore. I am aware there is a good chance that a newer daytona is on the horizon, (chances of the daytonas being done with altogether are quite slim). I think it's a great enough bike in itself, and there aren't any issues that would make me want to wait for a better or higher capacity version. Spares are assured for 10 years too.

TBH I am at a point in life where life is basically going to be all work work work for the next many years. I needed something to keep me excited and thrilled and look forward to, even if for a few dozen minutes a day.

Booked it today , Daytona 675 in white.
