  • Yamaha R15 v2 or R15 s ???

Hello mates... After 5 years of ownership of bajaj bikes ( 2011 pulsar 150 & 2013 p220 ) i decided to try other brands..
    I shortlisted 2 bikes

    1. Duke 200
    2. R15

Due to my current financial situation duke is out of list ( 1.70 on road kerala )

I test rode R15..its a good bike but i miss thrill off instant pickup of my 220 or friend's 200ns..but its ok to me because of trouble free future..

Now the dilemma is which one to choose between R15 v2 or R15 s !!
Except rear seat problem ( actually thats not a problem to me ) what are the main difference between this two ??

    1. Milage ( i heard that s version has good figures than v2 ..is it true ??

    2. O2 sensor ( what about this ? V2 dont have this )

    3. Other differnce..you tell

    4. How to know the manufacturing date using engine number ??

Please share your thoughts friends.. i have to buy the bike on before january 1 ( new year special )
Sorry for Bad english i know..

AFAIK, there isn't any mechanical difference between the two. So the choice comes down to styling and that is truly personal preference.

      Ride safe and have fun.

Don't know much about it. You should check the R15v2 ownership thread for these.

And really, you shouldn't think too much about it. Whether is has a o2 sensor or not, what can do you in either of the two cases.

My suggestion, if you like the R15 and are only debating between the two variants, consider how much you ride with a pillion. Simple

          Ride safe and have fun.

No difference in the engine or any other vital component. Both the V2 and the S versions are exactly the same internally (Both use closed loop fuel injection system, Hence O2 sensor is present in both) . The only difference is the pillion seat.

If you travel alone all the time (like me) get the V2. It looks good from every angle, the raised pillion seat is bloody useless, but it does makes the bike look sharper and well proportioned as compared to the front. It looks like a proper sports bike.

If you have a pillion even half the time, get the S. The rear is plain ugly and does not match the bike from the front (Personal opinion, no offence to the owners). Back looks like the back of a 100 cc commuter, but is pillion friendly.

Trust me you don't want to take a pillion on the V2 even for a 10 km ride..
Feel free to ask any more questions (3 year old V2 owner here).

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Please don't call me sir. We're brothers.

The thing with V2 is, if you ride with a pillion, the moment you touch the brakes, whole weight of the pillion is transferred to your shoulders, wrists, and back, so even a short city ride where you have to face stop and go traffic, jams (Accelerate then brake), it is very painful. In hills its even worse, when you come downhill(same reason).
highways and plain roads are less painful coz the bike is at a constant speed with very less use of brakes. It can be done, and you will get used to riding with pillion. but is will hurt in the beginning.
So I'll let you decide on which one you want.

Coming to service. You will have 6 free services which will cost you 800-900 rs depending on your state and the taxes they have.
After that paid services cost around 1600 - 1800 Rs for normal service (only consumables, nothing broken or replaced).

Breaking service cost. (Approx. may differ slightly depending on taxes)

                engine oil - 550
                oil filter - 180
Chain cleaning and lubing - 100
Total 830( this is free service bill)

Add 500-700 as labour charges to this for paid service bill.
Add more if you broke something (rear view mirror, indicator etc)

Mineral oils are not used for R15, semi synthetic and fully synthetic oils are used. Some service centers use semi some use full. No major difference between the 2, coz the drain interval is short 3 moths or 3000 kms, whichever comes first. Ask the service center guys and they will use the one that you choose (semi or full).

No news about the V3 bro. And looking at Yamaha history, I won't hold my breath. Look how much time they took for the R3. First there was R25, then it was launched in Indonesia, then there were talks of R3 for India and so on and so on. Yamaha has still not given any fixed date and all we have is rumors. you can wait if you want, but there are no promises for Yamaha. It could be next year or the year after that.
                Choose wisely brother.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Sorry man, I skipped the question about the date of Mfg.
The chassis no is on white rectangle sticker pasted to the chassis on the right side of the bike. It will be near the right foot peg, just above the brake pedal.
It is easy to understand, there will be few letters denoting which factory the bike was made, then there will be numbers, its just a time stamp, so it will be something like this.

ADKHS20160725 (This is just an example to explain. the 2016 is the year, 07 is the month, and 25 is the date. the letters in the beginning are the code for the factory in which it was made). It is printed in a bright white sticker, very easy to find on the right side. you can easily find bikes manufactured 4 to 6 months ago, they are all fine, make sure that they were not used for test rides (They will be wrapped in polythene and protective covers)

Congratulations on your first bike. Happy miles ahead. BTW Have you decoded your VIN number? Where to find the VIN number in R15S.

Congrats on your new machine. The only problem that with the v2 is to get beatings from your pillion. Life will be happier if you can Dodge those. 😋
Being an happy owner of this machine for the past 2 yrs, I assure you will never regret the decision. The only downside is the pain and sore butt after long trips.
BTW the odometer is 20k now.(still happy like the first day)
