So here I am looking for a bike for my best friend. He left entire thing on me. He trusts me a lot as far as motorcycles are concerned just because I have done few rides to Ladakh and Himachal or maybe because I brag before him lots of stuff I learn from xbhp.
So here are the things he is 27 weighs around 68 and is tall for about 5'8. He was kind of interested in RE classic chrome and squadron blue. But just then I told him about the things I faced with standard 350 during my Ladakh ride like weight issues, poor brakes, vibrations over 70, no use RVMs, lack of power, windblast. Best thing I found about Enfields was there low end torque. Also told him about the things I have been reading about enfield since last 3-4 years. Then he asked me to decide with a exclamation " I won't switch atleast before 10 years". 10 year means atleast 90k kms and it is a huge thing that makes me concerned. He is kind of guy who loves his machines and try to keep them in well shape no matter even if its discover 100.
I showed him Dominor 400. He likes the overall specs and bike but at last he said its not something that touches the soul. And as it comes from Bajaj will it be reliable? He have his stories of Discover and Pulsar.
Next was 2017 duke 390. He already loves that bike the concern was how comfortable will it be on touring? As he plans to make trip to spiti this year and he will be more in touring. And again also comes the reliability issue.
He is looking for a bike he could keep for long with just regular tear and wear.
So the major concerns for me to decide are..
Can Austrians be equally trusted as Japanese since long term reliability are concerned?
Should I let him go with his heart and purchase an Enfield?
Or ask him to save more and extend his budget for Ninja 300 or R3?
Or we will miss a lot if we ignore Dominor 400?
Suggestions and advices required. Please help.
