  • Help needed in choosing a bike!

    Hi,

I need help in choosing my first bike. I read a lot of posts in this section but thought it better to create a new one. My requirements are as follows -:

    1. Budget - Around 75k. Can increase it by 10- 15 k max but only if I derive great value from it.
    2. Use - I intend to use it to commute to office. Mostly city riding, with an occasional trip once a month.
    3. Ride comfort and handling are important.
    4. Mileage - Around 40 kmpl would be preferrable.
    5. I am 6ft in height and some extra kgs. I want a bike that looks good.
    6. The bike should be >=150 cc
    7. Will prefer to buy it by the start of May, but can wait for 1 more month if anything worthwhile is expected.

I have some practice on a friend's Pulsar 150 which I often use.

Based on the posts earlier, I had shortlisted 4 bikes -

    1) Royal Enfield Bullet (electra, machismo) - Had a test drive on an electra 350 cc and I had a big smile on my face after I got down. It also suits me well.

The biggest put off is that it costs around 90k in Noida, with disc brakes and self starter. Another issue that I am concerned about is maintainence. I being a software mazdoor find little time during weekdays and hence would prefer something which does not require a lot of upkeep.

    Please advise.

    2) Karizma - I haven't taken a test ride as yet but intend to do so. It looks good, but am concerned whether it would be okay for city driving.

    3) Fz-16 - This looks to be best option based on the posts I read. A couple of friends have also purchased it and appear to be satisfied. The concern here is whether in the long term it carries any risk. There enough service centers but the problems will only be evident after some time.

    4) Apache RTR 160 Fi - This was also recommended by a lot of users. The reason for concern is that a lot of people have advised me against buying a TVS bike. Haven't taken a test ride, but all the above 3 score better in looks that RTR.

I do not wish to go for Unicorn or Pulsar 150 (although may consider P180 or 200). Please provide your recommendations for the above as well as for any other bike that may be suitable like hunk or CBZ, etc.

    Thanks for the help.

the only prob you'll be facing are the maintainace thing as compared to the other list of bikes you listed here....

the points u said above this bike rings ur bell.....
it's very well suited for ur height and weight,it's very good city commuter and will be putting smile on ur face whn you'll take it for ur long ride as it's KING of long drives....

      GO FOR IT....
      i'll recommend you this....

      .

for ur height and weight this bike is too compact and you wont be finding the riding position too good....

      .

i would have straight away recommended u this but it's way too small and low for ur dimentions.....'
it's a gr8 bike though slightly uncomfortable in city cuz it's powerband set at high RPM so it's always like "pull me man, give tht damn accelerator"!!!!!!!!

      .

you can seriously think for P200 as its also like karizma gr8 city commuter and a tourer.....
it scores well over karizma in terms of the standard equip list......

dont go for HUNK and CBZ they wont suit ur build.....

Karizma all the way... A great bike to ride both in the city and on tours... And for your height it should be the most comfortable bike for you. Second only to the bulls.. Its also known for being very reliable.. So it should in my opinion suit you best....

Any views on bullet electra 350? The biggest concern is whether it will require some sort of maintainence every few days and if it is as reliable as the new bikes.

With the kind of description you gave, a Bullet would suit you best.
as for the maintenance part.. whatever bike you buy you'll need to regularly service it and maintain it well for if you want the Bike to take care of you You should take care of it too.

My suggestion go for the Bullet...

Keep us updated on the developments...

The Electra is the perfect bull if you are buying one for the first time and are not very sure of whether or not you should buy a bull. Electra has the least maintenance among all the bulls. Has sufficient power and torque to get you to Khardungla and back. In any case, as long as you are just careful (Read: change oil regularly, check tyre pressure, wash it regularly, check the wires and fittings once every 15 days or so) you should be fine. Run it in nicely and it will do fine.

                      Thanks for the encouragement!

Electra with self starter and front disc brakes is costing around 90k in Noida. If I do not take these, it will be around 80k. I can live without self-starter but how important are front disc brakes?

                            At around 70-80ks

The best bike according to me is pulsar 180

With awesome power delivery, and great Elder bros features and at 70k OTR pune.....its one of the most VFM bikes in India...(till new p200 comes to the market ie)

                            Thanks Sarvajit for correcting me....

@Devilpulsarian: His budget is 70K, can push upto 85K. The R15 is 1.1L on road.
If the budget is 70, I say GS150R.
If the budget is 85, I say Karizma.
