• need help from the experienced enthusiasts!!

hello everyone!!

i am planning to buy a motorcycle. preference is a Royal Enfield Himalayan.
but when i was going through the forums, news and many other blogs, i have found out that there are alot of negative talks about himalayan

when seeing it from a wider angle it seems like the posts and news are promoted by Bajaj(this is what i feel)
because all the comparisons have been done with Royal enfield and not any other motorcycle. eg FZ250, Ktm 390
either they are Himalayan VS KTM or Himalayan VS Dominar
nd both say Himalayan is not good.

can you guys please help me with your experience whether should i go for Himalayn or Dominar or else for Yamaha.

Which brand should i go for?

Query Approved

I would suggest to forget blogs and their comparisons. Take some time out and read through the ownership threads of the bikes on the forum. You will be in a much better position to make an informed decision.

No bike is perfect, every model has its quirks and shortcomings. Read about them and decide which you can live with and which you can't stand!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

If you are going to buy a Himalayan and ride from Street A to B, I would suggest you to find something else. If you are an avid tourer/ explorer, go for it. There are good reviews from owners. FZ25 and Himalayan are 2 different leagues IMO.
R15S - Current
Honda Dio - Current

Classic 500 - Sold
Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

Hi,

The Himalayan is a bare bones Adventure/Explorer bike and its comparison based on the price or cubic capacity which the auto journalists tend to do is frankly irrelevant. Now that we have that out of the way, like you I too have seen stand alone negative reviews of the bike on many websites. I have also read some owners suffering from catastrophic failures early on in the ownership. Of course the other side of the coin is that it looks and feels like nothing else on the road.

My only reason not to opt for it was that if at the beginning of my day I have to keep guessing on my way to the parking lot whether my bike will crank up on the first go or will the bike hopefully not stall and refuse to start up or hopefully it will not suffer some electrical failure?

I know this may seem exaggerated but most will agree that from an average Joe's point of view after spending nearly 2 lakhs on a bike if he has to worry about these basic things, then the money spent is not really giving him the worth he deserves. Please take your decision from a logical as well as slightly emotional point of view.

If you already have the RE bug then ignore the above.

Dear helloworld,

Have you taken test rides yet? I feel your choice still is very vivid and broad scoped. Take exhaustive Test rides and you will be able to come up with a better and more specific list.

+1 to this. Only get RE if you are one of those guys who think real men ride RE and boys like plastic toys.
If not, there are bikes that are better than RE in every way possible. If I say anything more, then I will be labeled as a RE hater.
Don't rely on the blogs or journals. Read the ownership thread back to back, and at the end if you think you can deal with it.. go for it.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
