  • Bike for long distance touring

Hello brothers, I need a few things sorted out before buying a bike for long distance tours. By long distance, I mean 500/600 Kms of travelling to be done in a single day at max?

The bike will be used for tours only and occasional highway rides on weekends. I have another bike for every day use.

Should be able to sustain 100kmph for longer periods with out vibrations.

Need a good mileage 35-45 kmpl. The higher the better.

Reliability,. Comfort and stability is a must. Please no bajaj, TVs, hero and RE. They all lack something on each department. No offence.

I had zeroed in on CBR 250 after going through hundreds of pages on Xbhp and started saving for an august delivery, this year.

But now i am having serious doubts because of the seat height. See, I am a short guy, 5ft 3 approx. Test drives are not available here. And have to order for the bike. And no one I know, owns one.

I tested a friend's r15 (on highway) once for 20 kms. and owned a fz previously. Only could land half of my both foot on the ground while sitting on both those bikes. How ever, they were ok.

What should I do? Please help.

Thank you. And sorry if I missed anything. Feeling sleepy

For once i am stumped and cannot think of any bike which fits a 'What Bike' query!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

+1 to it.atulmnh choice is right. less vibrations, seat height to suit you, FZ 25 would check all the boxes, you may get 35 km/l because it is not an outright performer.

My post is about your CBR 250R decision, My height is around 5' 7''. At present I have a Honda Unicorn, old model Bullet 350 & Honda CBR 250 R. Honda CBR 250R might be comfortable for riders around your height. If bike is only to be used for touring at consistent 100 kph, CBR 250 R will do easily, provided if you reduce your fuel efficiency expectation between 30 to 35 km/ litre.35 to 45 km/l is not possible with CBR 250R during long rides at 100 kph or more.

Regarding seat height, simple solution is go to the nearest showroom to check seat height on display bike. anybody will allow to check comfort, even if they doesn't have a bike for test ride.

I'm 5'6" CBR 250 owner, and I have difficulty putting feet on the ground too. What is do is 'calf raises' (Google it) to strengthen the calves. A strong calf will help you to balance the weight on one leg when at traffic stops and when taking the bike out of the parking lot.

I would like to suggest you the new RTR200 which I think should be good for your height, you can also checkout the FZ25 or the Benelli 300/250.

You've pretty much eliminated any manufacturer that has a model for your height...low profile cruisers like the Avenger / Thunderbird are the only bikes that come to my mind for your criteria.

Avenger220 is the perfect one for a 5.6 i guess.
                  Can cruise comfortably at 100kmph.

Add Mahindra Mojo to your list. Fits your needs, visit the showroom to check for seat height.
FZ25 is also a worthy contender.
If nothing works, CBR250R is the answer.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

You don't need gym membership and all that stuff.

Just rise up on your toes, then come down. I bet you can't do it 25 times. Then pick up a pair of 5 kg dumbbells, and work your way up to 50 reps.

                        Thanks for the tip brother.

Today I went to Yamaha show room and tried the fz25. I found it light weight. How ever, I could only land the tips of my feet on both side while wearing sandals. I tried the r15 too and could land half my foot on both sides. How can this be possible? Fz25 seat height is 795 mm and r15 is 800 mm!

                        Thanks in advance.

CBR 250 also has 795 mm seat height.

The width of the seat also plays a role in the seating position. If the seat is too broad, you'll have to tiptoe more.
