  • Should I buy FZ25 or R15 or stay with my RX135 5 speed?

    Hello Friends,

First of all thanks to XBHP for accepting me as a member.

I currently ride a RX135 5 speed mostly in Chennai city (riding it for over 1.5 years). But I will be moving to Bangalore in a month, so I am thinking of buying a new bike.

I am confused between buying a FZ25 / R15... Should I buy one of these or just take my RX to bangalore?

    Requirements as follows:

    1. Mostly city commute 30 kms approx. a day and occasional highway rides or touring around 350 kms once in a month.

    2. Fuel efficiency around 30 to 35

    3. SHOULD BE MAINTENANCE FREE

    4. Reliability for at least 5 years.

    5. I am 5'5" and 64 kg., need a light bike.

    6. Need smooth engine without any vibrations even in higher RPMs.

I had test rides of FZ25 in two different showrooms and I liked the bike a lot. It is ultra comfortable. I had also driven my friend's R15 Version 1.0 for about 50 kms both in city and highway and found it ultra flickable and I liked the way it revvs... I felt a bit of pain in fore arm but it doesnt worry me a lot.. Will R15 be comfortable for long rides?

Or should I drop this idea and just take my well maintained RX 5 speed? I am afraid of taking it for long distances as the seat is very small and uncomfortable for long rides.

    Thanks in Advance...

Even the non-mechanical products have lifespan. Perhaps chemically stable, non-mechanical products Asoka pillar might tick here.

Anyway, if you like long tours then faired version of fz25 is only logical and is coming out in one or two years, perhaps with a larger tank?.

Otherwise, FZ25 is right for you coming from RX135 riding posture & flick-ability in cities.

The third point was to mention less maintenance

        Thanks for your suggestion

What about R15 S? Is it not comfortable for long rides?

If you don't want vibration at higher revs , then forget FZ25.
its quite viby above 7k RPM.

For city ride fz25 is the best option, you just don't need to rev it harder, it doesn't have anything to do at higher revs, compared to R15.

          Ergonomic comfort > wind blast

So even for highway rides, Fz25 > R15s.

          Cheers.

I couldn't believe your point about vibration... All the reviews in YouTube say that there is no vibration in FZ25... 😱

Secondly, can the FZ 25 be ridden constantly around 110 - 120 in highways? Do vibrations exist at that speed in 5th gear?

              FZ25 does 100 kmph at 6300 RPM.

100-110 kmph will be the sweet spot.

My Rx does go until 120 with ease... But the suspension is so very stiff for longer rides... Vibrates a little but that doesn't bother me..

My mechanic says that he can modify the stay (swing arm??) to that of the Yamaha Gladiator's, so that the wheelbase will increase and the suspension angle increases, which will aid me in comfortable long ride. Can I try this mod? Will it help me saving 1.5 lakh by not buying a new bike?

Can anyone suggest me on this?

I recently say rx135 with rtr180 disc brakes.
And i think rear shocks were also rtrs i think.

It is not that comfortable, pain creeps in shoulders and wrist due to aggressive stance. I recently did a ride till Hosur from Chennai. I was comfortable for first 100 kms, post that I had to stop for 10-15 mins to relax my shoulders and wrists. It does stress a bit when pushed till 110 kmph and trying to maintain at that speed for a while. I did constant 95kmph and it was revv happy.

One way to reduce the pain on the wrists, grab the tank sides with your thighs a bit tighter. It relaxes your wrists since you get to feel comfy a bit. After riding 7k + kms on my R15s post 6 months of ownership. I am happy with it.

@Santhosh Devarasan -it looks like the seat foam of your RX has internally collapsed which happen when the seat foam fibers crack with age and their are no more trapped air bubbles to provide cushioning and support-get a new seat for it-they don't make flat and broad seats like the RX any more.
                      Keep the RX.
                      Get the FZ25.

I have a 2010 R15, Did Ladakh on it in 2015 from Bangalore. Same story with another friend of mine with another 2010 R15 & 2012 CBR150R. During the Ladakh trip, the guys with a P150 and Thunderbird 350 had more trouble (physical discomfort due to various reasons) than we did.

My point is that don't let reviews and other's opinion affect your decision - go with what you'd want to do (buy/retain).

Just now had this confusion sold my 135 and got a fz 25.
For your use I would ideally suggest fz 25 as the riding position u don't want to compromise much on the riding position when compared to R15
