  • FZ25 or MoJo

    Hello guys,

I am not sure if this has already been discussed, i couldn't find a thread so hope anyone of the proud owners can help me out.

I am a proud owner of FZS V1 for about 6 years now. In which i have munched km both in city and highways. Though it is awesome bike for city, (which by the way will be my majority of use) i always felt underpowered in highways.

So comes my thirst to upgrade. I had an eye on mojo since the launch. But i wasn't sure about after sales service or city handling.

By my test ride experience i know for certain FZ25 is amazing for city ride. But what worries me now is, if i own FZ25 will I still feel underpowered in highway ?? In addition during my test ride i did not have the same feeling as i have with my FZS. It lacked smoothness, could be because it's new, but it still put dent on my thoughts.

    What i am looking for

    1. Comfortable city rider and it should do 600+ KM stretch occasional highway rides.
    2. No vibes when cruising 100-110kmph in highway.
    3. Good after sale service , in which Yamaha scores for me. But Mahindra riders can share their views too.
    4. My city rides will be 50km in a day, so i love to have strain free ride..
    5. Though i love sporty rides, it's not my style of riding.

    Please share your views.

    Thanks.

For highway cruising you should consider Mojo and Dominar.
Both these bikes have got the thrust beyond their cruising speed which FZ25 lacks.
And you get the safety net of dual channel abs and better pillion comfort with Dominar.

You can also consider KTM Duke250.

      Cheers.

You can even consider the Honda CBR 250. Best in class tourer, Awesome engine, Service is 6k interval. But outdated model compared to current trend. ABS is available, so safety is there which is missing in FZ25,

          2. No vibes when cruising 100-110kmph in highway. - CBR, Dominar.

CBR was in my mind until the ban on BS3 engines, if not i would go for it. Dominor i feel it's too much power for city commute. Any advise on that part?

              Hi Harrison,

The power surge in the Dominar is quite manageable. I have ridden it 100% in the city for the past 1.5 months and I am easily able to manage the bike. I understand what you mean by "too much power". Frankly I felt that about the Duke 390. That thing wanted to go fast all the time and I remember in the test ride I felt I was having to reign it in continuously.

The Dominar is very commuterish in that regard. Do take a test ride and take it in traffic. It will surprise you. I have wrung its throttle a few times (gave in to the dark side!) and it responds well, but at no time does it beg you to keep going fast. you can slot it in 4th above 50 kmph and it feels as natural as putting on your helmet.

              Hope this helps.

Thanks Vikram. Will do a test ride this Saturday, hope that will help me decide which one to go for.

Both bikes are heavy but manageable, still you are coming from a 135 kg bike to a 180kg+ you will realy feel the extra weight on quick direction changes.
Since you are riding mostly in city, you must try DUKE 250 also, nearly same performance as Dominar at the same time very agile.
Duke250 will make your city commute realy entertaining.

Since it has a smaller engine, will be more efficient than Mojo and Dominar.

                    Re: FZ25 or MoJo

I would suggest Yamaha FZ25 considering you owned Yamaha and happy with the service and build quality. Though Mojo is a very nice bike, it is hard to find service stations if you are on long rides. But I would strongly suggest you to take a test ride of both bikes. Buy the one which is more comfortable.

Why don't you consider Duke 250?

Duke is not to my liking (No offense to Duke owners). It is an awesome piece of machine, but it is not as comfort as i like it to be. I took test ride for FZ25 and i liked it okay. Though increase in 7bhp, never felt uncontrollable and nibble as well, but not sure if LED is adequate for night rides.

Wanted to test mojo for a long time now. But don't where where can i find one in chennai.

Planning to take Dominor and Mojo for a spin this weekend.

There are a few mahindra showrooms here, go to the mojo website n register a TD, you'll get a call on which showrooms have the TDs.

What is too much power by your definition. The ponnies are not going to hit you as you whack open the throttle like a mad liter class bikes. The power surge is manageable. It increases gradually and madness is beyond 7.5-8k RPM, I doubt even if you would reach such revv inside city (I hope you wont).

So, no worries on the power surge as long you keep that right wrist under check.

The dominor should be the best bet ( although its vibey at the handle bar post 90kmph) for highway and manageable in the city. FZ25 with its weight advantage will be nimbler in the city and should be able to hold 90-100 kmph on highways. CBR 250 with its fairing will be a good tourer too.
Frankly, i did not like the Mojo (no offense meant to the owners)or even the Himalayan.

+1 to the above post. Dominar is the best value for money you can get. I have not ridden one yet, but owners say that the vibrations are there but you can live with it.
The FZ25 is the known territory for you. You already know what Yamaha bikes can do and how reliable and smooth they are. I personally think the light weight will be a blessing in the city. The small engine (As compared to Dominar), will be fuel efficient as well. And you already know the service center guys from the FZ16 ownership.

Mojo is a worthy contender, but spare parts and lack of wide spread service network might be a problem (If you plan to tour). No Problem for city usage, if it suits your needs and riding style.. go for it.

Take extensive test rides of all the shortlisted ones. Back to back, if possible. Then choose the one that suits you the best.
