  • Weekend Bike with good saddle bag installation capability

    Hello fellow XBHPians,

I am an old timer on XBHP and have owned a Honda Unicorn earlier. I am above 40 years of age and have 3 cars at my disposal.

An avid photographer and traveller, looking for a weekend getaway bike. I would do very little city travel from work / home etc on weekdays. Four wheels are pretty tiresome getting out of Mumbai city. Plus a bike can go and park many more places where four wheels can't.

    Requirements
    1) I wont drive for more than 150-200 kms out of Mumbai most probably,
    2) Option for serious touring - not ruled out however not primary, would be rare.
    3) Limited offroads capability desirable. Photography can take you to some places like that !
    4) Not looking at a 0-100 in 8 seconds kind of sports bike.
    5) Most important - a relaxed comfortable fatigue free driving stance
    6) Pillion will be my saddle bags 99.9% of the time.
    7) Bike must be 250cc + (Have driven a spoked 150CC unicorn for years and want to upgrade). Have FI.
    8) I am 6 feet tall.

    My research so far
    1) Got very interested in RE Himalayan but again quality issues are alarming. Other RE bikes too many issues / very common now.
    2) Bajaj anything - very common and somehow not a big bajaj fan. Prefer international brands.
    3) Mahindra Mojo - something is odd about it to me (not sure what) - I am happy with their 4 wheels, Dont want their two wheels yet.

    Leaning towards
    1) Any KTMS, but they are expensive (though price is not a challenge, but its just a weekend getaway bike)
    2) the new Yamaha FZ 25 looks, specs make me keep thinking of it, however saddle bags which will sit well on them ?

    Questions
    1) KTM Vs FZ25 ?
    2) open to good arguments on other bikes too, even any of the bikes I put down earlier up.

Thanks for taking time to read my post and thanks much in advance for sharing your valuable inputs Much appreciated

    Regards
    Manish

    Query Approved

For your relaxed limited riding, the FZ 25 would probably be a better (and cheaper) bet as compared to the KTM
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thanks much "The Monk" for approving the query. I am also leaning towards one, however want to know from the audience regarding design features which allow good saddle bags to be fitted as well as a wind visor. KTM looks right there for such after market modificatins.

You will always miss the comfort of unicorn.
        O
The bikes are very smart, but it's still up to you to keep the rubber side down.
