I'm a 24 year old 6 ft 80 kg average built person looking for a new motorcycle. I'm now using a 20 year old HH CD 100 SS. My budget is 1 lakh plus a maximum of 20k. I am optimistic of almost all brands as any new ride will be an upgrade to my CD 100 ss. I found Honda Hornet, TVS Apache rtr 200, Bajaj Pulsar 200ns worth considering. Royal Enfields seems good but expensive. These likes are only on a not-so-technical basis ( I am a newbie and started regular riding only a year back with my dad's bike). So all opinions are welcome. I am more of a commuter with 50 kms daily ride (up and down together) from my village to city. MY MAJOR CONCERN is pillion comfort for my mom. She sit sideways. She finds the pillion seat of new bikes a bit uncomfortable with height and slope of the seat compared to that in my 100 cc which is flat with no gradient. Apart from that, a bike with good fe of at least 40 kmpl, good for daily use, short rides and city, low maintenance and good looking ( the 100 cc commuters are practical but looks old and also it does not seems an upgrade to my current old boy ). So please help me find a best machine.

Query Approved
The Unicorn is one of the most comfortable bikes for a pillion. Looks are subjective. The NS200/ Apache 200 will not be comfortable for a pillion for 50km.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thanks to The Monk..
Unicorn 150 or 160?
Today I enquired the price of re bullet 350ES at Sivaji Motors, Trivandrum, Kerala. It is 1.46L plus a 3K for crash guard, thus making it near 1.50 lakhs OTR 😀 (costly affair) but it checks all the boxes for me with a claim of 40 kmpl for sane riding. I am a sane rider with a positive mentality on maintaining my bike. Is RE Electra 350 suit me if I manage that money? I got mixed reviews on mileage, maintenance cost, reliability. Kindly give me suggestions.

Stay away from RE motorcycles if you want a hassle free and peaceful ownership experience. Seriously.Originally posted by unik View PostThanks to The Monk..

Considering your budget and priorities, why don't you seriously consider the new Bajaj Avenger 220 models. They IMHO are the only motorcycles comparable to REs (based on your budget) when it comes to pillion comfort and are extremely proven and reliable too. The fuel economy is decent and so is the ride quality. Plus they will be cheaper to maintain and Bajaj has an extensive service network too.

Re: What bike should I choose for best pillion comfort?
You can consider Pulsar 150 , 180, unicorn 160, Avenger 220 which will suit your budget and also will be more comfortable and all these bikes have a flat seat. And the maintainance of a Bajaj is tension free.I dont ride my bike to add days to my life.
I ride my bike to add life to my days.

Re: What bike should I choose for best pillion comfort?
+1 for the Unicorn. I'm a happy Unicorn 150 owner for the past 6 years with 50k on the ODO. I too fall under the "tall" category for I stand 6"3 weighing close to 75 kgs. The seating is almost upright and the ride quality is very plush. The pillion seating is very comfortable for my dad, mom, and granny have no issues hopping on and off the bike.
Some REs are also supreme on pillion comfort but before choosing which RE, you need to make sure whether you're fine marrying a RE. As said by fellow bhpians, it's a very demanding marriage and you should have extreme patience else it'll be a disaster.
Cheers!

+1 for the Old Unicorn, not the new 160. Its a gem of a machine. It captured all Honda commuter hearts other than Shine users who wanted more power. It should definitely return a good mileage and also comfortable for pillion inside city .R15S - Current
Honda Dio - Current
TNT 600i - Sold
Classic 500 - Sold
Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

+1 for Unicorn, good all round commuter.
Stay away from RE, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: What bike should I choose for best pillion comfort?
Me too have some dilemma when comparing 150/160 cause each bike caters some requirement for some users
If you are thinking of unicorn then i would suggest new Unicorn160 for better pillion comfort over old Unicorn.
Advantages over old unicorn:
1. Has more torque and power and able to compete with any bike of its class. Ride old and new back to back to believe it.
2. 17inch alloys (compared to 18inch in old uni) and much improved bike stability compared to old one. Ride old and new ones back to back along corners, try high speeds.
3. Lower seat height(Compared to old one) so that any short elder women or men can climb easily or get down easily from bike.
4. better light throw(although its still poor when compared to P150 or others) when compared to previous uni.
5. I feel old unicorn too bulky(may be its my opinion) when compared to new one. Who wants a bulky bike which donot have that much power or torque.?? (This is my opinion)
The new unicorn is highly underrated may be due to its looks but its a killer in all aspects when compared to old Uni...!!!
Many members may not agree with me... But i suggest you test ride for long distances on any bike before finalizing.

Re: What bike should I choose for best pillion comfort?
Yes. The Uni160 is a fantastic bike and has better torque than the older Unicorn. But the biggest issue is that the bike is not selling well after the old Uni was reintroduced. Spares are scarce even for the old Uni. One factor you need to consider while buying a bike not selling well.Originally posted by Srinivas sr143sr View PostMe too have some dilemma when comparing 150/160 cause each bike caters some requirement for some users

Uni 150/160 will be a good choice considering pillion comfort. RE if you are ok with a temperamental bike and have loads of patience. Pillion comfort is not good on avenger 220 on bad roads.Originally posted by unik View PostHi friends,

My suggestion would be Uni150/160, Pulsar 180, Avenger 220. Apache, 200 NS, Hornet can be avoided.

Thats true bro. Also Honda is very poor in marketing their own Good product. I believe the people they hire for Sales in their showroom are either dumb or don't know how to describe the features of it for a normal customer.
But RE has worst Pillion seat comfort in the world. Its harder than a mountain rock. I have personally sat on RE Classic350 as a pillion and i only can _/\_ to its back seat. WORST...!!!!

Re: What bike should I choose for best pillion comfort?
Thank you all for your constant input and support. Thanks a lot riders.
I'm seriously considering your opinions and the Unicorn 150/160.
TBH I'm a little fond of the new age naked street looks...So I'm considering the fz 25 also. Let me check the options. Also I think if I get a saree guard with footrest some comfort in sideways sitting is achieved 😀. There is a war going on in my mind about looks vs practicality. Am I a little aged for the naked street versions? 😎 Also I am constantly checking the replies even though not logged in. So consider the query in further discussions and let me know your valuable opinions.
Have a good ride...Wish I join you soon with a better ride.
