  • Buying my first bike (really tall guy)

    Hello everyone,

I'll cut straight to the chase here:

I am 22, 6'4" and weigh about a 110kgs. I am new to bike riding and have finally decided to take the plunge and purchase my first ride. I would request you guys to be patient as my questions might seem very noobish and am sorry if I am in violation of any forum rules. My budget is 2-2.5L OTR at max.

My daily commute is of about 40kms with a mix of Delhi traffic and gurgaon expressway. The traffic riding will account for almost 60% of the ride.

My friend has the Duke 200 which I use for commute from time to time that's about it for my riding experience. I had a Honda Aviator during my school days though.

Since it will be my first bike and I still am in college, I want something that looks the part as well.

I have shortlisted the following after taking a test ride:

KTM RC 390 - lovely bike. The only problem is the aggressive riding stance.

Bajaj Dominar - While I like the upright seating position and the cruising capabilities, the bike is HEAVY. Also, the upshifts seemed a bit hard, though I'm not sure it was an issue with the test bike or with all in general.

KTM Duke 390 2017 - much more comfortable to ride than the RC. However, every dealer in town is quoting almost 1-1.5 months for delivery and I am in dire need of a ride (maximum 2 weeks). Also, I've heard the new console has several issues.

I did consider the TB350 as one of my friends has that as well, but they do not come with ABS.

It would be great if you guys could shed some insights for my first purchase!

    Query Approved

The Duke 250 would be an interesting proposition i believe.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Duke 390 if you have the bucks. The new console is an absolute show stopper. I'd get it if I were still in college. Power, safety and looks, it ticks all the boxes D400 is a bargain. But if you afford the Duke go for it. No matter how good the RC looks that's not the best everyday bike, atleast for me. But that's subjective. All these bikes give you more than you can ask for as a first ride, so a sane head with a good helmet will make any of these bikes a good bike.

In my view, You should go for Dominar 400 instead of Duke 390. The money you saved can be used to buy helmet and other gears.

Ah, too late.. for what it's worth I'd have said go with a pre-worshiped Scorpio . I'm 6'2", 100kg. I bought the Honda CB Hornet 160R and altered its gear and brake levers to cope with the height in excess of designers' mannequin.

                How'd you do that?!

I was contemplating on buying the FZ25 as my first bike, but I'm 6'3" and, truthfully, the bike does not have the best fit. So it'd be great if you could post a DIY or something.

The gear lever mod is on my blog (with a pic), brake lever mod is underway.
