  • Is 24bhp too much for a beginner? Which faired bike should I buy?

Hey, so I'm looking forward to buy my first bike. I'm actually a beginner in bikes. But I drive scooter (have balance) and car (know shifting gears), so I guess it won't be a big problem. I wish to buy a fully faired bike under 2 lakh for commuting and frequent touring. Pulsar RS 200 is among my favourites followed by Gixxer SF, Yamaha R15S,Duke 200 (tho not faired).. Suggest me if any other. I'm tall (5'10) and skinny (<60kg). So considering all these, should I be worried about the 24 bhp power, 200 cc engine displacement, 165 kg weight of the Pulsar RS 200? Please help me to get into a conclusion. ☺

No. 24 bhp isn't too much power for a beginner. As long as the rider has his head firmly screwed onto his shoulders, he/she will be fine.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Go for Dominar abs. Its a great bike, Bajaj's best till date. Dont be afraid of the power, just learn to control the bike by practising u turns near your house.

Be gentle with the throttle and you will get the hang of it in 1000-2000 kms.

I wish to buy RS 200 and I have not driven any bike more than 10 times. Is it okay?
        And why ecstatic? 😂

I want faired bike and Dominor haven't impressed me much in looks. It's also heavy for me as I'm skinny and tall

You can have a look at the RTR 180(ABS). Fair power and touring capabilities. But, then, if you can handle and ride sedately, then anything below 25 bhp should not be a problem. But lesser carb weight like the Duke might pose a problem due to its insane power-to-weight ratio.
Also, you can ride a used 150cc bike for a few months, then jump to a 200cc/250cc. Don't get me wrong please. It's not about your skills. Its about the internship/experience in a small or medium company before you get a job in a big company.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

I looked at the duke too because of its light weight (I'm skinny). I'll ask my cousin for his Gixxer. Actually I drove Gixxer a few metres. The only problem I had was clutch release. I guess I will get used

Yes yes. It's no problem. You can learn to ride on the bike you buy.

Why ecstatic? Because that's the feeling going from a 7bhp scoot to a 20+bhp motorcycle!

Thank you. Do you think I should check some other bikes and not RS 200?

You can also look at FZ if you are ok with naked else Gixxer 150.Light weight, easy to ride. in the beginning take it to free lanes and understand how the bike behaves and soon you can have control of it.

Regardless of which bike, my suggestion is to go for used bike so that you can save some money and then you can upgrade to the next big step based on, in which direction your interest goes in motorcycle. But ofcourse if money is not a problem then you can go for new bike.

IMO 24bhp is not the matter of fact, rather your age/maturity/skill is all about to handle that power. I started off with a 250cc machine and I don't regret that decision. In India people have the mentality to learn on lower CC bike but I found that using a higher bhp bike would give you more confidence once you are accustomed with it along with the responsibility on the road. But yes do note that higher cc bikes will be heavier and that might be an issue. Anything above 150kgs would be heavier to you according to me, but again it's upto your fitness and skills.

As krishna77 already suggested you to take a TD of Apache I would recommend the same. Plus you can get ABS option in RTR. If you want a faired bike best option would be R15/Gixxer SF or even Duke RC based on current market.

I only look for faired bike (Yamaha R15S, Pulsar RS 200 or Gixxer SF) or Duke 200!

R15 would be the lightest one and reliable too. On the other hand RS200 would offer you ABS but cost you additional weight. Do ride both of the bikes and let us know about your thoughts. RC200 would be way too sporty and there would be hardly any pillion space.
