  • Tiger vs Multistrada vs R1200GS

I have been dreaming up to own a superbike for the last 2 years. It started with the 600i, affordable, but I test rode a striple and 600i just did not seem to cut it. Striple seemed out of budge with 9+ lac on road. But then I test rode the tiger and things were not the same anymore. It was super comfortable for Indian roads.

I have not ridden a bike regularly for the last 3 years now, but I feel a sense of freedom when I am on it. I have test ridden the 600i, striple, rented out a tiger for a day long tour and also owned a VFR 800 when I was in US. I love to pull the throttle but also be able to ride comfortably for long range of times. That is why I am settling on adventure tourers as the category that will help me be comfortable, but be sporty when I need it.

90% of my ride is going to be city. I may go out on a 100-150 km ride on a weekend every 2 months. I have always dreamt of doing a longer ride, but did not have an able companion to do it and probably if I have something in my stable, I will just go and do it.

I want the bike to be comfortable for both the rider and the pillion - my wife is going to be using it and till my daughter is old enough to sit independently with me. I want the bike to be easy to maintain and reasonable service cost/spare parts.

My budget is about 15 lacs. Now looking at comparison between Tiger vs Multistrada vs R1200GS, is there something which the experts will advise on. Is there a bike I have not considered? I am at Hyderabad so unfortunately have not been able to test ride the Multistrada or R1200 GS.

Have you considered the V-Strom? Or even the Versys? Cheaper option considering that you are going to be riding in the city most of the time.

    BMW 15.9 vs Ducati 14.8 vs Triumph 18.7 vs V-Strom 13.4

For the kind of usage you have, anything more will be overkill. Even this will be overkill. The Versys 650 would also do at a substantially cheaper cost!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Try the Versys 650 - for the budget that you talking - you get the bike plus you can install all the accessories and life time of fuel along with complete maintenance too.

+1 to be above, a Versys 650 will be good enough to tackle the city and occasional highways blasts. With the budget on tap, you can make enough mods to it and get yourself equipped with best gears and accessories for the bike as well.

Really? You may be talking of Triumph 1200. I am talking about Tiger xrx which is 12.3 ex. and Ducati 950 multistrada should be 11.5 ex. I will give Versys some more thought as you suggested. V-strom? Have not really heard much about it. Is this well services/available in India?

What a coincidence. I read your ownership experience yesterday on the Versys. To talk honestly, I have not rejected Versys as yet. I feel that I have to feel connected to the bike. I have ridden the Tiger and the triple just takes my heart. I have to ride the Versys and see what feelings it evokes. Not sure if Kawasaki opened its dealership in HYD. Will look out for that.

Ok - went through the link and also the dealer network. Seems it is prices at 12.9 ex. Which makes it a tad more expensive than tiger xrx. I notices that there are huge differences in GC for these bikes for eg. Twin has a GC of 250mm, and Versys has just 170. Is this something that matters, how much GC is enough. I will not do serious offroading anytime, but if there a off beaten path, would want to explore.

250mm is a high number for GC and that would mean going for extreme offroading. You can search on Youtube and see what people do with their Africa Twins. A GC of 180-200mm is ideal for touring and mild offroads given that there will be luggage and pillion. The new Multistrada 950 has a GC of 183 which is good enough for all round use. The Multistrada Enduro has 200-210mm of GC and R1200 GS has 200mm. I hope i am right on these figures. Since you are looking at less of offroading and more of city and highway runs, the Multi or the Tiger would suit you.

For £11,000 what kind of sports adventure bike is available? We ride offerings from Ducati, Honda & Triumph over 400 miles in Wales to find out.

Thanks, so would you say 170 mm is less for Versys? will I scrape breakers with pillion.

I sent out an email to Kawasaki Hyderabad email id. The showroom is yet to be opened. They have indicated they will open in a week or two. (good news!) Can't wait to test ride the Versys.

Any news of Ducati dealer coming up in Hyderabad. Really strange showroom spread these guys have.

Well, the 950 Multi is yet to be launched in India, so I dont really know how you are going to get it. Initially I thought you were not in a hurry, and were willing to wait, but if you are, then I guess, the multi isnt an option

I didn't mean that. The GC for Versys is more than enough for Sport Touring on highway and Mild off roads and can take on speed breakers without the fear of exhaust scraping below.

I am in no hurry. i can wait till end of the year. But Ducati does not have a showroom in Hyderabad. So, not sure when they are planning to open one. The 950 will launch sooner, but unfortunately, not in HYD.
