  • Which bike to buy

    Hi,

I will start of the bat. I want a bike within 10days. That is by 16th June. And sorry for this late post here I recently joined xbhp. My budget is 2.3lakhs precisely.

    My expectations:
    Good Tourer
    comfortable riding
    very reliable engine

    Bikes I sorted out
    Mojo 300 bs4
    Dominar 400
    Cbr250r

So here the dilemma starts. I have owned Bajaj 180 ug4 for last 4 years and clocked 32000kms. I was in college when I bought the bike that is 2013. And till 2016 January I clocked 22k Kms. Then came the problem. I used to ride hard, like hard engine braking etc. So on Dec 2015 there was flood in Chennai where I live and luckily my bike was not drowned. Till then I had not had a problem with my bike except I had to change clutch assembly two times(since I downshift frequently without clutch)
So in January the engine oil was completely drained and left was 100ml of oil. The oil indicator was not showing and I dint check the engine oil level as the glass where we can see the level was blacked due to water and dirt. So when I went for a short spin of 40 Kms the bike stopped in middle without a noise. I was at 85. I was in Chennai bypass, luckily nothing happened. I parked my bike in side of bypass road and checked and saw small smoke coming out of air filter. I was like dude I am smoked. Then took the bike to mechanic and he said oil was too low as I mentioned above and this caused my cylinder and piston to wear. I changed the cylinder n piston to new. I dint rebore. Then something happened after thousand kms. Same problem. The reason is engine oil was leaking from crank case. Dono why. Then I rebore it at 24k kms and in 26k again same thing happened. By this time I was going to office and I dint ride hard. So I almost spent like 35k in one year.

So here is my question. Should I go for Dominar 400 given that bad experience I had with bajaj bike. Or should I go to Mahindra MOJO which I find to have good reliable engine than Dominar. Specs apart. I need reliable engine. Cbr 250r was stopped so I can't go for it now. My choice is with two bikes. MOJO OR Dominar.

    MOJO
    better ENGINE,
    BETTER TYRES
Better high speed touring capabilities (less vibration at high speed of 130+)
    Less service centers
    Poor Lighting
    Poor rear brakes
TOURING EDITION (lighting taken care of
Bs4 front brakes taken care of

    DOMINAR
Less build quality I mean plastics
Lot of vibration at higher speeds
    Better Lighting
    Better cornering ability.
    Vfm
    abs
    slipper clutch 😍
    Engine reliability????????

    Help me in deciding
I liked both bikes very much. Only thing is engine reliability in Dominar and exhaust note.
In mojo it's service center although I have a service Centre near my house. But since I wanna go for long tour I find this little worrying. As for corner I can restyle exhaust to under seat.

Plz help me as soon as possible.

    Thank you in advance

    Re: Which bike to buy

    Query Approved

If you treat any motorcycle as badly as you treated your Pulsar, then it isn't going to be reliable. I am appalled by the fact that you think the bike isn't reliable!

Learn to use and care for a motorcycle and not abuse it. Almost any bike would be reliable then.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Re: Which bike to buy

Yeah I agree on that! I had a very bad friends who ride bikes. I mean Squids during my college days. I dint abuse the bike but what I said seemed to look like I did so.
1)By hard engine braking I meant I had to do so else I would hit the zombie running in front of me where I am at 80kmph.
      2) ride hard I meant I give full Throttle when I start from a signal and brake hard to stop at signal
And now when I think about it after 3 years I feel ashamed that I rode like that during college. Seriously I thank to the true bikers who taught me what biking really is.

Bike dint have any problems till that cease happened due to very low oil. I guess problem is not with the bike rather than with the mechanic whom I gave the bike to repair. The mechanic took 6k for reboring my bike head, cylinder and piston. And nothing else was done.

      Mr The Monk.
I test rode Dominar and I felt vibration more than my own pulsar 180. So I decided to go with Mojo. Did I made a right choice? Just needed a final verdict from experienced person like you.

      Thanks

        Re: Which bike to buy

Bajaj Dominar would be the most suitable bike only when you maintain it properly, not only bajaj but whatever the bike may be the maintenance must be properly done regularly. And if you can wait for 2-3 months to buy your bike then consider Royal enfield continental GT which is more capable of cruising and you can keep it with you for years and modify it as per your taste as years go by.

I agree I understood that after year with my first bike.. But till then I did showroom service after that I gave it to local mechanic. That's the mistake I did. I have Booked Mojo yesterday.
