Background:
I have been on a Thunderbird 350 since 2008 and have had many happy miles and memories with it. Its been a wonderful companion and was my everyday commute and touring companion.
Im in my mid 30s now and Im car borne primarily, for work, for family and everything in between. But yearly once or twice, when my family makes other plans, I devote some 'me-time' and set off for long tours on my trusted steed. My TB has started showing signs of age now and I'm looking for an upgrade now and was looking at the Himalayan. Heard a lot of rants doing rounds on the web about the H and wanted to check it for myself.
So, I rented a snow Himalayan that had 40 k on the odo, (abused and probably bashed within an inch of its life by all those who rode it before me I'm sure). Set off on a good 2 week ride across Spiti-Lahaul valley.
Contrary to the dark media around it, I simply loved the Himalayan. It was a no nonsense throw it around all you want kind of motorcycle and was definitely more fun in some circumstances compared to my loyal TB. The electric start didn't let me down, despite all my apprehensions, even close to zero degs on an early Chandrataal morning. Off road and rocks, boulders the H was just dismissing them.
I would pray for some more power and bigger tank on it though.
BUT With the BS4 FI versions , delivery unclear and all those reports of poor QC, I wonder if its okay to plonk about 2 lacs on it (for only 24.5 BHP).
Herein, lies my dilemma. I believe its time for me to graduate to a better and bigger segment.
Requirements:
Its strictly only touring, so good adv tourer is what Im looking out for.
Im looking something around 4lacs maximum budget. Do not want to plonk more than that on a motorcycle I will use only few times a year for long tours and short weekend trips.
I am a big fan of the Tiger and insanely in love with it, but I'd have to rob a bank for that.
Between the H and the Tiger, probably -Versys 650 sits, but on the bad side of 6lacs.
I love the Benellis's looks and think I can live with its relatively lesser power:weight ratio, but worried about reliability.
Which brings me to wait for these options with these concerns:
BMW G310GS - Power, Maintenance, Spares???
Benelli TRK 502 - Chinese Make?? Reliability??
Used Versys 650 -Cant find a good piece out there.
Himalayan Fi- Cheapest option and no nonsense can throw around and makes most smartest decision as initial investment is low?
What would you do? Would Really appreciate some clarity and honest suggestions.

. It broke down once (for which I got the indication on my bike console that there is less charge in the battery) because there was some issue in battery (which they rectified).
