  • 2017 Ninja 650 vs 2017 Z900 vs 2016 Ninja 1000

    Hi All,

As the thread topic suggest I am in a big dilemma of which bike to choose as heart says Ninja 1000 but head says Ninja 650 whereas the Z900 is between both (head and heart). I used to be a regular rider and now again coming back to riding with Karizma 2006 model.

A brief about my priorities and purpose for which I'll use the bike:
City Riding - Once or twice in a week
    Weekend Rides - Yes
Intercity Rides 200 to 400 kms - Once in a month

    Budget:
5 to 8.5 lacs plus 1 lac for accessories and gears

    Questions in mind
1.) What if I buy Ninja 650 and soon after a period of 6 months I crave for more power?
2.) What if I buy Ninja 1000 and not able to take it out regularly for regular city commutes (once a week only) or Inter city trips?
3.) What if I buy Z900 and crave for more power and comfort of Ninja 1000 or Ninja 650 (better tourers)?

    Help on Maintenance

1.) What is the general cost of maintenance and upkeep for all three bikes
    2.) Better resale value

    Cost of Bikes

    Ninja 650 @ 6.1 lac OTR Delhi
    Ninja 1000 - 2016 model - 8.7 lac OTR Delhi
    Z900 - 8.6 lac OTR Delhi

    I need to make a decision in next 10 - 15 days.

    Thanks in advance

Go for the Ninja Z1000 Sx. at the price its is available in India, its a steal. The features are worth the buck.

        Hi,

I was in the same dilemma.. After the launch of Ninja 1000 and its pricing.. It felt intimidating. I own a RC 200 and loved it. Sporty and aggressive posture.
I have toured around 2000 kms per ride. The posture was painful on bad roads.. I used to take a break every 70-90kms. I loved it on good roads, and on bad roads its painful. After two years of owning a RC 200, I wanted a bigger one.. more power and weight. I have ridden a Thunderbird 500, I loved its weight. One of the problems I faced in highways is crosswinds.. the bike handles it.. but I wish it had more weight. So I opted for Z900 instead of Street Triple 765 (IMHO I feel its more suited for track) I was going back and forth between Z900 vs Ninja 1000. After much research, reading online reviews and speaking with owners, I booked a Z900. I wanted a naked as I already have fully faired ride.

Please take off Ninja 650 from your list.

Its very hard to choose between the two (Z900 & Ninja 1000).. In my case, I needed a naked and a budget friendly bike.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

As I have also dropped Ninja 650 from my list, I guess its better to buy a CBR 650F then Ninja 650.
          Inline four is Inline Four.

Now I have also dropped Ninja 1000 - 2017 edition coz of other cost attached to owning a superbike (such as riding gears, bike accessories, etc) which itself cost around 1 to 1.5 lacs more then any superbike.

Now Iam focusing on Z900 and CBR650F (2017 edition) which is to be launched sometime in September 2017 in India (as confirmed by Delhi Honda Dealer).

Thats nice.. Z900 is 8.7L On Road. Expecting a similar pricing from Honda.

Try to do a test drive on these. You will know what your heart wants..
            All the best

I suggest choosing from 2 best options in the category - Kawasaki Z900 and Triumph Street Triple 765. But it might be worth to wait a bit more as Triumph will come up with RS version apart from already available S version.
Check how is the attitude and spare part availability of Kawasaki at your local dealership. At least in Pune, I found Triumph much more amicable and willing to be a bit flexible in treating its customers and that tilted me towards Triumph (you can refer my thread about Street Triple 675 ownership).
Honda CBR650F simply doesn't sound and doesn't ride like an exciting motorcycle. I don't want to say it isn't capable - but it just doesn't have that "Zing Thing" which you expect from a super bike of this class! Feels too much commuter-like though it is fast in reality. It is very subjective but Street Triple is a blast in comparison while CBR650F is a silent gun!

I booked the 2017 Ninja 1000 @11 L on road Delhi and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Again went back to the dealership Aurum Automobiles, Delhi and test rode the Z 900 yesterday and I missed the torque of my Heritage Softail Classic. Can't really downgrade now. Because it has so much more going for it which the Versys (my first choice) cannot be. A bike capable of doing 300 kmph (electronically limited to 250). A proper 1000+cc 100+bhp (142) 4 cylinder bike, fly by wire, led lighting (1st in class), slipper and clutch assist, 2x2 exhausts, all latest electronic aids including that Bosch 6 axis inertia system, both adjustable suspension, good enough wind protection, dedicated pannier mounting system, 3 mode traction control, cornering abs, dual power modes, average kmpl of around 17 giving a range of 300+kms on a tankful plus all other bells and whistles of a litre class bike @9.98L (ex-showroom) is just too mouth watering... And my primary aim is cross country riding on paved roads, not off road.

                Cheers...

If new Ninja 650 is in your list, may I suggest soon to be launched 2017 Honda CBR 650F. It will do everything you have mentioned, and at the end of the day will be comparatively easier on the pocket to maintain. Among all the Big Bike manufacturers Honda and Triumph have a good reputation of offering very good after sales service.

Cost of spares for CBR650f is already quite reasonable compared to other bikes in the class. Have a look at it too before you finalise.
