  • Help me on buying my very first bike..

    Hi All,

I'm new to xBHP and I'm following few threads in ownership experiences - The FZ25 and Gixxer 155 since I'm planning to buy a bike. I have never owned a bike before and I use public transport as my main mode of transport for daily work. On weekends, I use Activa-i for city rides in my hometown.

I actually learned to ride a bike in RTR 160 and Pulsar 150. I have ridden my friend's relatives bikes - Star City, Splendor+, CB Unicorn, RTR 160, Pulsar 150, FZ-16 V2, Fazer V1. I have only once rode my friends Fazer V1 in highways for ~20 KM (no other highway rides). I never went into panic braking situations in any of the vehicles and never skidded or faced an accident in a two wheeler. Only after joining xbhp, I realised that front brakes are most important to use during braking, not the rear. I have always been using rear brakes for braking since I was threatened that front wheel locks will get to you to accidents (never got a rear wheel lock so far since most of my rides are in city). So my bike driving experience is on the low side.

Since I'm this type of a newbie, I'm confused to choose between Gixxer 155 and FZ25 more for safety reasons. (I know I'm comparing really two different category bikes).
The bike I'm buying is for:

    1) Daily commute for ~30 KM (medium traffic).
    2) Weekend highway ride for ~120 KM.
    3) Pillion comfort for family members/friends.
    4) Comfortable ride quality, less/no vibes, smooth gear shifts, very good control for easy traffic filtering, GOOD brakes
    5) Cruising @ 90-100 Km/hr in highways without engine stress (I never rip off)
*Please neglect budget and mileage difference between these two bikes*

If I need to add some points for you to answer better, please let me know.

The Gixxer should easily do everything you want and more.

Also, check service quality of Yamaha and Suzuki near where you live. Because that will make a big difference between being a satisfied owner or not!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Gixxer SF could suffice your needs for both weekend highway rides and daily commuting.
Also you get ABS in few days on SF models. So wait for it if you are buying Gixxer.

Yeah, everyone who goes to FZ25 as an option should've crossed Gixxer SF and dropped it for some reason. I dropped it because I wanted a naked bike

Why don't you try Dominar or pulsar's and if you want either of these 2 bikes Go for Gixxer... Not a big fan of FZ's though

              I'm leaning towards gixxer.
May I know why you're not a fan of FZs? Just to know your thoughts on them.

I am more of a full faired bike fan.. And mostly importantly I feel because of the initial pickup FZ has a few people tend to misuse it and its really very irritating and can causes serious harm to other people on the road.. I have had one or 2 instances myself with FZ and R15 riders.. So for your being your 1st motorcyle I would suggest go with Gixxer as it has better handling features and better review then most of the motorcycle on its category..

Correct! I was also worried of that initial torque when I see FZ25s launching from traffic.

I'm not interested in fully-faired bike as I'm afraid I might drop it someday and hurt the fairing which I can't digest such damage to my bike any day [emoji24]

                    Hornet 160R vs Gixxer 155

Hi guys.. I'm thinking of getting Hornet and have a few questions..

                    1) I read somewhere in Hornet ownership thread that CBS feature is not helping cornering. Is it true? Why?

                    2) Does Hornet feel more planted to the ground (stable on higher speeds) than Gixxer during highway rides @90+kmph and during cornering?

                    3) I don't know why Honda stopped selling Hornet in mono colours :'( Does the 2017 Hornet have DC headlamps (as it has AHO feature)?

                    4) Can I peel off the stickering from the bike to make it mono colour?

                    5) Better headlight throw and spread between Gixxer and Hornet?

                    Hoping for answers from experience
