  • I m so confused. Help me to choose best commuter bike with in on road price of 70 k

Hello, I want to buy a motorcycle for daily office travel from delhi to noida(30 km total) in heavy traffic (sometimes with pillion). I dont want 100 cc bike. I want one time tension free investment because i want to buy it for 6 or more years .I want good acceleration (0-60 in quick time) with stable handling and comfortable enjoyable riding experience. It should have durable engine n body parts with low maintenance cost

    1. Budget- below 70 k on road
    2. Age- 29
    3. Height- 5 ft 6 inch
    4. Weight-60 kg
    5. Intended usage- Office commute, occasionally Highway runs
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement - around 55 to 60 per litre
    7. City & Highway percentage usage- city 70% & highway 30%
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running- around 30 km daily & around 1000 km in a month
    9. City - delhi ncr
    10. Brand- brand is not an issue

After lot of research i have found some bikes within my budget with my assessment are-

1- TVS victor : what i like- best value of money. Loaded with all features. Good reviews. My Doubt - no idea about real world mileage and performance on high speed (70+) . Cons -Look is not impressive.

2- bajaj v12 : i like- look is awesome for me. Looks premium in its segment. My doubt- i have doubt about mileage and i thought it is heavy and big so its not suitable for heavy traffic as other bike. Cons- tube tyre.

3-bajaj pulsar 135ls: i like- powerful engine. Look is good. My doubt - no idea about real world mileage. Cons- tube tyre

4-honda cb shine sp: i like - resale value. Good reviews on internet and by the local mechanic. My doubt- no idea about real world mileage. Cons- price is high. Look is not impressive.

5- yamaha saluto: i like - value for money. Good mileage. My doubt: low bhp engine almost equal to 100 cc bike. Is it less quicker? Cons- look is not good. Less power.

Plz clear my doubts and suggest me best buy for me according to my points.
    Thanks.

    Query Approved

All of these bikes will do what you want except one thing. None of these bikes are going to accelerate to 80 fast!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Check the Honda Shine, very good bike and solid Honda reliability. I am not sure about its FE though but a better buy in my opinion would be Shine. Do try to get the test ride for victor and V12, both are comparatively new. The other ones saluto and pulsar135 seems outdated

          Thanks.
My experience with Victor GLX has been good. these bikes last long and give good mileage provided you service them at regular intervals. But i wont suggest this a #1 on the list because i've had bad experiences with service centres. The machine in itself is top notch.

Of all the bikes suggested by you i would say, CB Shine. It would get the job done while still holding its head high and giving you quite a good FE.

Other than that, all these bikes have more or less similar output, you can take testdrive and decide by checking comfort level, service centre vicinity, costs, spares etc.

Thanks #abiram and #rugved for your suggestion. Can anyone tell me the mileage of TVS victor and honda cb shine sp in city like delhi. I have heard that honda cb shine sp mileage is low and spare parts are expensive.

To be honest, I have not ridden all the bikes that you have mentioned here. But out of personal experience and the mentioned usage patterns, I would strongly suggest to choose a bike that has better low end torque. I was in a similar situation as you last year, in search of a commuter bike in this segment. I had also considered some of the options that you have mentioned. I ended up buying the Honda Livo, a decision I regret till date. I chose it because I had less experience riding motorbikes back then (I had been riding only scooters before that) and Livo being light with manageable power, felt like a perfect beginner's bike. The CB Shine SP was not launched back then and I tried to save money in a head-v/s- heart decision. I could have very well waited for that bike to get launched. Well, to this date, I regret that purchase decision. The thing (Livo) absolutely lacks low-end torque and needs to be revved hard to extract usable power, contradicting the very idea of effortless commuting. I feel the gear ratios are not good, with the first gear being too short for any use and the second gear unusable in some situations. It struggles to pick up speed after encountering speed breakers, in second gear, if you don't rev hard. All of this results in poor fuel economy as well. I feel this is generally the case with most of the 100-110cc bikes available in the market (again, I may be wrong). So, honestly, I would suggest you to consider a bike that has atleast got a 125cc motor that would (atleast in theory) offer better torque for city commutes.

I would suggest that you slightly increase your budget (by a few thousands) and consider the Honda CB Shine SP, that has the proven torquey 125cc motor and a 5 speed gearbox. (These 4-speed ones run out of breath pretty quickly, and the 5th cog will definitely help in cruising.) Mileage depends entirely on the way you ride, and bikes with good low-end torque don't need to be revved all that much to make progress. I feel that it would suit your requirements perfectly. Do check it out. Extensively test ride every option, and don't buy anything in a haste, to prevent regretting in the future.

Thanks dear for your suggestion. I agree with u, low end torque is important for city traffic riding and TVS Victor and Honda Cb Shine both have more powerful engine than honda livo thats why i didnt mention Livo in my options . I m not in haste to buy. I m waiting for diwali festive season to get some good offers.

My pick would be the CB Shine SP, for that extra 5th cog. Another worthy contender is the Yamaha SZ-RR. It is a 150cc commuter that costs just a little more than the Shine SP CBS variant. Do consider that as well.

Hello, I am a xbhp follower since an year, Currently owning a CB Twister (2011)

I am planning to buy a scooter now,

                      Main requirements:

                      Good mileage (40-50kmpl)
                      Better ride quality.
Long term reliability (Minimum 6 years).
                      Good service and maintenance.

After all the research, I have decided to choose between Aviator, Activa 125 and Jupiter

Spoke with 3 people who own Access 125,
                      Everyone had mileage issues!

I tried Activa 4G, The ride was fine, smooth engine, good build.. but the pickup wasn't that good and the suspension was bad especially the front!

Jupiter: Better ride than Activa 4G, Rear suspension is really good, smooth but not as refined as Activa.. I am only concerned about build quality and maintenance.

I will take a test ride of Aviator and Activa 125 in a few days....

                      So Folks,

Which bike will be a better option when considering all my requirements?

Please do suggest, Thank you 😊

I am also planning to buy the scooter on Honda exchange program, will the showroom pay a good price for my Twister?

Mileage depends entirely on the way you ride. The Access should be able to deliver a mileage comparable to the Activa 125, if not better, due to it's lighter weight. Please don't rule out the Access just because of mileage, it's a wonderful scooter. I myself have one and I'm enjoying it. I see no reason to buy the Activa 125 over the Access, unless you really need that full metal body.

I can also vouch for Access 125 - a much better quality scooter. My wife bought disc version 4 months ago and she gets 46 kmpl in city traffic, and otherwise handling as well as control is good. Definitely worth buying.

I own both Activa 3G and Jupiter millionR edition scooties and trust me jupiter is better in terms of reliability and maintenance. Activa has given me so much build quality issues while Jupiter has not given single issue till date. Frankly, I purchased Activa by blindly following the brand name but I regret it now. Activa is just more silent than Jupiter. Most of my friends also recommend Suzuki Access but I haven't tried it yet. For my honest opinion, you can select between Jupiter or Access. Disc brake version is always an advantage...

One more thing I would like to advise you that don't go for the beige color body option as it gets dirty easily and difficult to clean up. My Jupiter was only available in beige color at the time of purchase. Please see to it if you can get new color combos of Jupiter now...
