  • Confused !!! Bike under 2 Lakhs.

    Hi,

I have my commuter bike Honda Shine (5 years old) and I'm happy with it because it gives me a good mileage for every day life.

Next year I am planning for Ladakh. Thus, I want a new bike for touring and off-roading purpose. Could you please suggest me a bike. My budget is strictly less than 2 Lakhs (on-road). My height is 5'11''.

I'm waiting for your kind reply.

    Thanks and best wishes,
    Dev

Other than Ladakh what else do you plan to do with the bike? Or sell it off after your ride?
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Dominiar is the Jack of all trades. I think it's the best it can get. VFM is the dominar. You get all the bells as whistles you need.Off roading bike is the RE Himalayan.

According to current market survey, under 2 lakhs, my options are only :

          1. Yamaha FZ 25
          2. Bajaj Donimar
          3. Royal Enfield Himalayan
          4. KTM Duke 250

          I'm really confused.

Are you open to buying used bike? If yes then you would get some more options.

FZ-25 has in it almost everything you ask for. The added advantage it is also suitable for city usage. Almost every review and ownership experience is positive.
Also, if you want to try something new, test ride the Renegade Commando from UM. They have recently launched two new models - Classic & Mojave.

No Sir, I don't wanna old bike. Then maintenance cost will be higher than buying a new bike.

UM is not a good option coz less service station and after sales service issue.

FZ 25 is more likely a commuter bike, it is not a touring bike and after market accessories options are very less.

                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

After stretching my budget and more research finally I stuck between the following options :

                1. Yamaha FZ25 : problems are, a) no ABS, b) after market accessories options are very less, c) under power, just like a powerful commuter bike.

                2. Bajaj Dominar : Problems are, a) low ground clearance, b) bajaj quality issues, c) ABS on-off is not possible, for off-roading ABS off is required.

                3. RE Himalayan : Problems are, a) RE quality issues, so many problems in old carburetor version, problems are taken care or not don't know, b) no ABS, c) no tubeless tyres

                4. KTM Duke 250 : Problems are, a) no ABS, b) seating position is more aggressive

                5. KTM Duke 390 : Problems are, a) high price, b) seating position is more aggressive

Please help me to invest my hard earned money on a proper bike for me.

FZ 25 and dominar are your best options. People have taken FZ 25 to Spiti valley and Ladakh and in my opinion the bike has sufficient power for touring especially on Indian roads.

Rather than FZ25, try out Fazer 25. Well, personally I will go with Dominar. But I own neither [emoji14] . I just read a lot on xbhp and other bike sites and lot of ownership reviews etc. 2nd, what quality issues of Bajaj you have faced till date ? I own CT100B and did 11,000 km on it so far and I rode it on usual roads, broken roads, no roads, in rain and in flooded areas were even exhaust got immersed in water for sometime (yeah, that happened once). The only quality issues I corrected was 60/- headlamp because stock lamp is a too dim. Idon't understand why people complain about Bajaj. It's sad [emoji20]

Try the FZ first it doesn't feel like a commuter at all. It's a balanced sword. But for off roading.Just get the Himalayan.Himaliyan has it all. It's built for the purpose you ask of.SVC support of RE is widely available. If offroading is your purpose think no further.Mojo is also good but offroading is not good it's heavy and stuff. Get an fz the only thing is it won't be exclusive it'll be a bike next door but it's a superb machine.

Not sure what makes you say that. I have used both new and used bikes and havent found any difference in the cost of ownership. You just need to check the bike throughly before your purchase. My last 2 bikes are used (CBR 250 and R3) and didnt face any issues.
What I think is with a used bike, you a get a higher segment bike for a lower price. If the bike has been maintained well then it should serve you very well.
For e.g. for around 2.2lacs you can easily get a 2017 Duke 390. The ones that I saw before getting my R3 had clocked anywhere between 750kms to 2400kms. By buying any of those you save around 80k which according to me is not a small amount and can be used for buying gear and other stuff.

Makes sense when you look at from that perspective, however we can't ignore the fact that one may end up with a lemon too - depending on what Lady Luck decides to offer you! [emoji12]

My two cents is to stick to a new purchase and be realistic about what you'd really end up using the bike for. Touring these days is mostly about good tarmac on the highways, with long hours in the saddle and off-roading, well, unless you're going to get into rallies - they'll be shorter rides and fewer in number overall. So riding posture, engine refinement and maintenance support are points to ponder about.

ABS is great if available within your budget, but in no way to be 'the' reason to buy a particular model as it all depends how maturely you ride ultimately.

There's no such thing as the perfect motorcycle within a particular budget. You've got think about which compromises you would not regret later. Plus, test rides - long test rides, if possible. Best way to know if your heart, your wallet and your bum will be happy for the miles ahead! [emoji3]

You should certainly go for a new bike, one reason being you are planning a Ladhak and some North East rides with the bike soon. With a second hand bike you never know what your luck hold for you and when doing some serious terrains you better be prepared and calculated than leaving much on luck !

RE Himalayan. I feel the Himalayan is a bit clumsy when it comes to city commutes, but the height of the bike (and your height 5.11") should be a good match. But yes there are issue with RE Himalayan, but i feel RE issues are just too much spoken about, besides which bikes do not really have problem !

KTM, I will not recommend as I am as tall as you are with long legs and it gets really tight on the KTM and on longer tours also gets a bit uncomfortable. Not much of off-roading experience to comment about it. But Himalayan does pretty good off-roading as well.

SO my vote will be for the RE Himalayan. In cities it does catch a good number of eye-balls to because of its form factor.
