  • Need advice to get new bike

    Hello,

    How is everyone ?

I need experts opinions on my new bike purchase.

    1. Budget 1.5lakh ... can extend a bit
    2. Age 29
    3. Height 6.2
    4. Weight 92Kg
    5. Weekend running
    6. Fuel efficiency 45 to 55
    7. village + highway riding
    8. monthly running 500kms (maximum)
    9. West Maharashtra (Konkan region) roads are very bad

In view of this I taken test drives of following bikes

    1. FZ25

Plastic of cheap quality can be found below seat although design is good. Bike had to be rev hard to get decent speed also heats up a lot below piston.

    2. Gixxer SF SP FI ABS

Ride quality better than FZ25. Engine more responsive and eager to rev but less powerful. but due to less ground clearance to small for me.

    3. Honda Hornet

    No bike available to TD

    4. TVS

    Same as Honda

    5. RE

I like to rev bike hard and move ahead but still taken T.D. BUllet ES .

very comfortable and nice engine sound but felt vibrations from 50 kmph(really!!!) even mirrors were shaking

Any opinions will be much appreciated.

Do test ride the Dominar. Also, what is the level of service support in your city? That should play a major role in your decision making. As i gather that you are from a smaller city/ town, where less common bikes might not get proper support at your local SVC.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Yes I am from small town but most of showrooms are present. I went to Bajaj showroom also. I seen every model present their even Dominar and RS 200. but the guy said no test drive today as he was short of working men.

But is the Dominar average is pretty low 25 KMPL?

How about RE Standard 350?. will it suit my height and weight

Honda hornet is my last and safest option

Hornet is a really good option for the type of mileage you are seeking. Also, do try the FZV2.0 and Apache 180(ABS).

I tried FZ S but it looks again small when I seat on it.

          Yet to try Apache.

          Hornet has waiting period here

after taking test drive of ns200 and apache 200 Bought fz 25 black colour on 20/10/17. The pulsar lovers will prefer ns 200 but being owner of Yamaha Bike earlier i gone with FZ25. You can't go wrong with any of these bike. FZ25 is amazing but heats up a lot may be because i am in braking period driven only 100kms till now.

The handling is so calm on clean and straight roads, feels like water in stomach is not moving. Still not crossing 4500 rpm as mentioned in manual.

Also i have a question. In manual it is mentioned that you don't need to rev slightly while down shifting and it will improve the fuel economy but i have habit of revving before downshifting.

is it ok not to rev while downshifting? what you guys do while downshifting?

Why would you rev the engine while downshifting? You are supposed to close the throttle, engage the clutch, downshift and then open the throttle.

One of my friend told me to do this so as to avoid damage to gears. sometimes you may hear big noise while downshifting if you don't give slight throttle. But i guess this 2017 bike and hence i may not required to give throttle before downshifting. will it affect the transmission.

U mean throttle blipping? I do that too, but only when i downshift one gear at a time.

                    yes. correct

is it necessary to do nowadays. "slightly revving" is wrong word that i used. sorry for that

Re: Need advice to get new bike

If you have the budget of 1.5 lakhs, then a bigger bike is better. Everything except FE is better. Riders expect FE of 45+ kmpl on 150 cc bikes while 30+ for a 250 and 25+ for 300 cc bike ( Not perfect figures. Mainly depends on bike and riding style. RE 350 have around 40 kmpl FE ). So if FE is the main thing and you want a commuter, chose a 150/160 cc bike ( It is a major segment and good options are there. You can't go wrong with any of them.) It ticks all your boxes and you can save 50k rupees. But for long rides, choose wisely. There are better ones and bigger ones.

I ride Hornet 160 and I'm happy. 50+ kmpl. Big bike feel. good styling. Mature performance. When comparing with others, Hornet is not bad. Not the best as it depends on the expectations of rider. You don't lose anything, for sure.

Blip the throttle for rev matching while downshifting. It gives a smooth shift without the jerk due to the gear coupling when the engine rpm and vehicle speed is not in expected proportion. Search for rev matching topics here or in internet. When practiced, you can avoid unwanted stress in gearbox and jerks while downshiting.

Or if the bike is having slipper clutch then also you don't need rev matching/ throttle blipping.

Did you check the duke 200/250 ?

                        Cheers.

It can be done. Only the difference between a slipper clutch equipped and a non slipper clutch bike is that the rear wheel doesn't lock up on frantic downshifting.
