  • Need Help...In delima wether to purchase a new bike or to keep the existing one

    Hello Friends,

    My self Amit from Mumbai.

Currently i own a Yamaha ss125 (Jan 2013 model 25000 Kms done till now).

My daily commute is approx 40 to 50 kms within city.

Recently my bike is giving many small small issues such as self start problem, rattling of few parts and also the tyres and chain sproket needs to be replaced.
I have ordered for the chain sprocket but Yamaha service center is not able to organise the same saying that its not available currently and will take some time. Its almost more than 20 days and yet they have not received the same.

Currently I have 2 options in mind:

Op 1: Go for Honda CB Hornet 160R by paying Down Payment of 20K and rest on EMI of 2 or 3 yrs
Op 2: Give the current Yamaha Bike to service center and get all the hick ups fixed including Tyre Change. I Guess that the expense should not go above 15/20K and the bike may last for another 2/3 yrs considering my usage. Battery is newly purchased in August 2017.

Considering Op 1, I may spend more but will be tension free as I am not sure about Op 2 as Yamaha has already discontinued ss125 model and parts availability in future may be a big worry.

Kindly guide me as to what would be the wise decision.

    Regards,

    Amit

    Query Approved

I would suggest 1 since you are clocking a lot of kilometres in your commute. You hardly want a machine that fails on you. Or one where you cannot get regular service parts fast. I hope the resale value of your bike will be decent to get the downpayment for the new one.

PS: If you can afford it, there is nothing like being 'tension free'
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

If chain, sprocket and tyres are the major issues, you can get those sorted in max 5k. Since you have been riding the bike for these many years, you will be the best judge about the engine performance. If engine performance is fine, then it can easliy run for another 25k before needing a engine rebuild/overhaul.

Not sure how much of resalve value you will get in the current condition of the bike as potential buyers will bring the price down due to the issues present in the bike now. However if you do get a bakra, then sell it off for a good price. If not, then I would suggest you to repair it and maybe sell it later on.

As for the non availability of sprocket, you can check for comptible ones and replace it.

Yes there are many after market parts available of good quality try safexbikes.com, and i would suggest you to go for hornet, it will be a better upgrade as you are riding your SS for 4 years.

          Dear All,

          Thanks for the guidance.

Will see what best i can do as i showed the bike to 2 mechanics and both are saying that parts availability is issue now and further it will be more difficult.

A resale valuer in kandivali has quoted 18K where as another one has quoted 15K. in the coming years, the value may be next to nothing for sure.

Need to get the hypothication part cleared before taking any decission.

Honestly speaking, the bike has never let me down even during the recent heavy rains of 29 August.

          Will keep you guys updated.

          Regards,

          Amit

Dear Friend: Thanks for the info regarding the website. Will give it a try and update accordingly.

Also i am more inclined towards Hornet, but then need to consider further plans of finances for admission of kids etc...hence in delima.
