  • Need help in choosing the right bike

    Hi xBHP members,

This is my first post here.

I'm originally from Bangalore but have been in New York for the last 8 years for my studies and work. I will be returning to India permanently early next year(2018) and will be working out of my office in Bangalore (Prestige tech park) on Sarjapur-Marathahalli Outer Ring Road. I stay at JP Nagar 7th phase and have driven through the crazy Bangalore traffic to this office whenever I visited Bangalore. It is around 17km one way, took about 1hr and 15mins on an Activa. I'm trying to figure out the best way to commute to work. I used to own a Hero Splendor 8 years back and have done Leh-Ladakh circuit in RE 500cc. I keep seeing so many new bikes in the market every time I visit India and I'm not very familiar with their performance and comfort. Kindly help me choose a good bike. I have read the forum guidelines on posting and below are some details.

    1. Budget = At this time I have not thought much about it but keeping 2 options depending on style, comfort, performance - under 1lakh, between 1-1.5lakh
    2. Age = 30
    3. Height = 5'11
    4. Weight = 70
    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.) - Daily office commute, weekend recreation once in a while
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) = At least 50kmpl if under 1lakh
    7. City & Highway percentage usage = 90/10 city/highway
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running = 35km/day
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) = Bangalore, Daily commute to JP Nagar - Outer ring road
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) = I like RE but not really looking only for it if there are better to suit my requirements.

Thank you for all your help.

    Query Approved

I don't think any 1-1.5 lakh rupee bike can give you 50 kmpl. 30 more like!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Look for Gixxer. My friend, a fellow Gixxer owner, gets around 45 kpl. His is the carburetted one.

I may be taking my wife or my mother as a pillion once in a while. Looking at Gixxer, it appears not designed keeping Pillion in mind.

Both Hornet and SZ-RR are good options keeping in mind your need for pillion comfort. And probably you won't need more than 150ccs for your intended city usage.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
