  • Help me choose a bike for myself

    Hello members !!

I have joined xbhp back after many years.

I live in Hyderabad and am a techie in an MNC. I am considering to buy a motorcycle for myself. My daily ride will be to my office, about 30-40 km round trip, 5 days a week mostly in the city. But I am also planning to have highway rides of about 500 km once every alternate month. I wish to keep the motorcycle for at least next 3 years. My height is 5' 11'' and I weigh about 80 kg. My budget is up to 1.50 Lacs. I don't want to go for Bajaj/KTM/Hero. So i am left with Honda, TVS and Yamaha. I am listing my motorcycle requirements as below:

    1. Mileage is not an issue for me
    2. It must have at least 17 PS of power
    3. I am not a top speed freak
    4. It must be smooth and vibration free in its entire rev range (0 – 8500 rpm). I will never cross the red line though. I owned a CBZ Extreme/Hunk several years ago, and the vehicle could do 80-90 kph continuously for an hour or two on highways without struggling much. So I expect the upcoming vehicle to do continuous 100 – 110 kph for an hour or two on highways without breaking a sweat
    5. Decent looks, Excellent handling in city and on highways
    6. Decent low end torque for cities and good high speed stability
    7. Good pillion comfort (if possible), though I ride alone..

I have shortlisted 2 vehicles as of now:

    1. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V FI
    2. Yamaha R15-V2 / R15-S

I would like to know if there are any good Honda motorcycles which can satisfy my above requirements. I could not find CBR 150R/250R on the Honda website. Are they discontinued?

I have some concerns about the shortlisted motorcycles which I am listing below. I request the RTR 200 and R15 owners to enlighten me about them:

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V FI

    1) Is this vehicle vibration free / smooth in its entire rev range? Can it do a 100-110 kmph run continously on highways? How is the handling / high speed stability?
    2) How good is the low end torque?
    3) How is TVS after sales service?
    4) Any long term reliability (or) rusting issues?
    5) Any other issues?

    Yamaha R15-V2/R15 S

    1) Does it have good low end torque (2500 – 6000 rpm)?
    2) Does it have any loose fairing issues / fairing vibration issues at high speeds?
    3) Will the bike be comfortable for my height?
    4) How is the Yamaha after sales service?

My biggest concern regarding both the shortlisted vehicles is that, if some issues arises with Fuel Injection (FI), can it be fixed any where in our country? Say, I have some problem in the middle of the highway or some remote village, can I still get it rectified?

I request your valuable inputs for my above mentioned points.

    Thank you

    Query Approved

If you are going to be riding in the city most of the time then the Apache would make a lot of sense. It is practically geared for the city. Urban traffic becomes a lot of fun on the 200!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

For daily ride in city traffic faired bike is not a good option..
Apache 200 will cover all your requirements (low end torque, look, easy to ride)...
