    Upgrading from 150cc - Looking for bike that is sporty yet comfortable, with dual channel ABS !!!

    Hello All,

    Looking to upgrade my bike 150cc (Suzuki Gixxer SF FI) in the coming months, which is sporty yet comfortable and also has dual channel ABS.. Can stretch to a maximum of 2.5 Lacs..

    I commute 90 kms a day in mix of state highways / National Highways / City roads.. I don't go touring on bikes.. But extensive commuting (weekdays)..

    At present have Suzuki Gixxer SF FI (2017 - Present), had Gixxer (2014 - 2017), Karizma (2014 - 2009) which had good comfort levels for both rider & pillion.. If there is one bike that i love riding of all the bikes i owned so far, it is the Gixxer/ SF FI..

    Have shortlisted Duke 390 / Dominar 400 / CBR 250R / Apache RR310s.. Have no interest in Bullet/Thunderbird.. Took test rides, few of them..

    2017 Duke 390 Test ride - Way powerful, twist of a throttle, just pulls like crazy..I don't know for sure if it is my mistake (or) i need to get adjusted with RBW throttle.. I was doing a solo test ride & felt the bike was pushing me back when doing lil aggressive shifts.. Is this common (or) would it take time to adjust to RBW throttle?.. I loved every aspect of the bike, but i think the LED headlamps are not that powerful.. There are some stretches of my commute on the highways with no lights..Felt the Duke 390 headlamp was not enough..

    Dominar 400 Test ride - Took the test ride in day time..Tried moving the the bike, felt bit of weight, but couldn't feel it when riding.. The steering i felt was slightly heavier than Gixxer.. liked it.. seat looked comfortable for pillion too.. Suppose, the head lights are best in the segment..

    FZ25 Test ride - For some reason, didn't find the test ride exciting..Felt that it is slightly more powerful than Gixxer, but not as engaging as Gixxer to ride.., so dropped Fazer 25 too..

    2018 CBR250R - Waiting for test ride..

    Apache RR310s - Was only able to see the bike.. Pillion comfort seems compromised..No idea on rider comfort.. But hear mixed opinions on rider comfort..

    I would like to have some fun, revv a little, ride some good speeds whenever/ wherever possible, yet comfortable.. Am confused between Dominar 400 ABS and the CBR 250R.. While one has very good power the other is a fully faired that can do some function..

    Appreciate your inputs..

    You have narrowed it down perfectly. Though the Dominar should be slightly more comfortable for commuting. Weight of the bike shouldn't be an issue provided you aren't too short and light.

    But before you finalise, do ride the new TVS, i have heard good things about it. Unfortunately haven't yet got my hands on it

      Am 5'9" and abt 75 Kgs.. Riding the Dominor 400 and Gixxer SF FI back to back, i could feel the wind.. If i did more speed on Dominar, think it would be even more..With Suzuki Gixxer SF FI, in the usual riding position i feel the wind starts hitting you near the neck & the helmet..

      But before you finalise, do ride the new TVS, i have heard good things about it. Unfortunately haven't yet got my hands on it
      Sure.. Yes..Am one of those who love this beauty.. TVS dealers in chennai are not allowing test rides.. Just hoping sooner they do.. Awaiting your hands-on with Apache RR310s..

      Few days back an other moderator, shared his experience with Apache RR310.. He had noted, that the riding position is not as comfortable as CBR250R..

        Hi,

        After seeing your enthusiasm on RR310 thread I would suggest to book it soon if the booking is refundable, and wait. When test rides begin go for a thorough ride and see. If you love it, then you won't have to wait again in booking queue to buy it. I reckon you'll like it since it will be a proper upgrade from the Gixxer SF having similar thrilling and nimble characteristics.

        Since you're already accustomed to a faired motorcycle, Dominar's windblast will be new but you'll get used to it, and most of the time you won't be doing 140+. That's the zone naked motorcycles really suffer since you can't tuck properly to escape air resistance like a faired machine. Seats of Dominar too are one of a kind for both rider and pillion. It's the first Bajaj I'm happy to recommend to anyone.

        But if you really need something special and don't mind some extra fun, the relaunched Yamaha R3 ABS makes for an exciting proposition too! [emoji39][emoji41]

          Thank you.. I don't mind paying a small amount of money as booking.. Just in case, i decide to cancel the booking, am at the mercy of the dealer in getting my money.. They create their own rules and there is too much time wasted in consistent follow-up & arguments.. Only for this reason, i refrain..

          I honestly wish, Flipkart / Amazon.in managed the bookings & deliveries of the premium motorcycle in India.. There are very good chances of cash back & no harassment for cancellation of booking & refunds..

          But, am really not happy with the way TVS is managing the Apache RR310 show.. They are turning off potential buyers.. Just 2 showrooms for half of tamilnadu and worst case no test rides.. Youtube is flooded with Apache RRR310 test rides, drag races & even delivery and yet there are no test rides in chennai..

          I like the Dominar very much, infact brilliant product..But a factory made optional taller windscreen would have been excellent.. Yes.. you are right, i mostly wont hit 140+.. But assuming you can hit 90 - 130 Kmph often, does a faired bike make it better than a naked w.r.t windblast?..

          If only R3 was made in India, yes for sure would have booked it.. But now, i guess i would need to pay more than a 1 Lakh as duty (CKD) to govt .. Its not that i can't afford for it, but prefer not to pay huge money to govt for CKD bikes.. So nope to R3..

            Pillion comfort looks bad in Apache. I'm also worried about it but I just fell in love with the bike so booked it :P . I might not sell my CBR just because of the pillion comfort issue.
            But to answer your question, yes a faired bike will be much better in terms of wind protection (and stability) at 100+ speeds.
            For comfort and great VFM, Dominar it is. Make sure to get the ABS one.

                When you say pillion comfort, what exactly are you expecting from the Pillion seat?

                    That automatically rules out Sports class bikes which includes RR310 and CBR250R from your list. Along with that even Duke 390 gets ruled out.
