  • Looking for a Sports bike considering KTM

    Hi Guys.

I'm on the lookout to own a new Sports Bike after 5 years staying away from bikes because I decided to daily commute in a car to avoid breathing in dust/pollution as you know Bangalore city is one of the busiest roads from where I developed Wheezing and lung congestion but Now I have come to a point where I need a two wheeler just to get around places on weekends and once a while tour to destinations around to mysore, chennai, hassan.

My budget is currently between 2 to 3 lacs and today I went to a KTM showroom to actually look at the bikes myself after reading thorough reviews about the bikes I took both 250 and 390 for a test ride and found Duke 250 to be pretty powerful and one of the things i did not like is the initial movement of the bike as it tends to turn off if not properly accelerated which I think is not a big thing till i get used to it and another thing is the seat height as it was taller than my previous Yamaha FZ S 150 but good thing was being 5.8 both my legs were touching the ground if not very comfortably and I was not on my toes., same is the case with Duke 390.

Performance wise the Duke 390 is just too damn of a beast to ride with kind of power it is built with and I was scared to accelerate even on 2nd gear, it is far ahead of Duke 250 but for a weekend riders like me I'm not sure If i need such a powerful bike or just consider 250 to be a decent choice and the only reason I went with KTM is because of its stunning striking design and a bloody onlooker which I did not find on Bajaj Dominar or Suzuki, while Benelli, Kawasaki and Ducati are quite pricey to my budget so I'm here to get some advice and suggestions between the two bikes which one I should go with.

Here is what I'm looking at. I will ride the bike solely to enjoy the feeling of a sports bike, I should be confident when it comes to manoeuvring and overtaking on the road be it city or highway and in most cases it will be a sole ride with no pillion ride.

You may have noticed I did not mention Yamaha 250 and this is because I owned a Yamaha FZ S 150 and i had terrible experience with engine finally coming to rebore at 50k km because I killed it for 5 years with daily commute of 48km and for a change I want to try something other than Yamaha.

    Thanks!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

You may want to consider the Apache RTR 310 or may be if even wait for BMW to launch their iteration in the naked form.

If you don't want to wait and can stretch the budget a bit then R3 makes a strong case for itself.

Try Apache 310R if they allow test rides now. It is one sports-bike that everyone is raving about.

If you are not looking for outright performance, why not try TNT300. Second hand market is filled with used models and you can get a pre worshipped one at a throwaway price but that can be a costly affair to maintain.

              Why not Dominar ABS?

Not too much outright power like 390, it will feel just like Duke 250 without that snatchy throttle. Slightly sporty ergos for a naked. Nice seats for comfortable riding in city or highway.

Also in your price range there is not too many naked motorcycles, unless BMW surprise us with G310R in May/June. But going by their pricing it will mostly be above ₹4lakhs on road.

              Cheers!

Dominar did not look good in it's design, the bike is also heavier by 20 kg almost as heavy as RE and I hate to ride heavy bikes.

I finally made up my mind to go with D390 but you were right the BMW 310r will be above 2.5 lac and not 4 lac because that too is again single cylinder engine.
