  • Confused - Gixxer SF vs RS 200 vs R15 V3

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy a new bike, and I'm confused between Gixxer SF vs RS 200 vs R15 V3. I want a bike mostly for daily commuting to office, and occasionally for touring.
I'm also getting a deal of a used Gixxer SF FI ABS which is 2 months old, close to 1300KMs for around 95k.

Can you please help and share your views.

    Thanks.

Go for the RS200 my friend, 150cc is still a 150cc no matter what all witchcraft and wizardry they may use to extract more power.. :cough: :cough: r15 v3 and its variable valve actuation.. rs200 is a very refined motorcycle that also comes equipped with abs, liquid cooling, very well balanced suspension, twin projectors etc..I own an NS200 and i had rented a RS200 in Rishikesh for 2 days. There is a day and night difference between both of them and the NS is already considered a very good bike. Shed the 150cc bike circle and go for RS200.. you can also easily get a sweet deal in the used market as well on the RS below 1lac for the ABS variant

Re: Confused - Gixxer SF vs RS 200 vs R15 V3

I would advise you get the biggest and most powerful bike that your budget allows. In this case the RS200.

The Gixxer Sf stands no where in front of the other two shortlisted bikes. It is low on power, no liquid cooling, and still costs over a lakh. 14 Bhp for a lakh is not a good deal.

The V3 is ridiculously expensive and is still underpowered to the RS. Has Slipper clutch (which is useless in real world) and misses out on ABS.

The RS has more power, has a single channel ABS, is liquid cooled and still a hell of a lot cheaper than the V3. This should be the obvious choice.

And before anyone blames me for talking crap about the V3, this is coming from the owner of 2014 R15 V2, still madly in love with it. The V2 was expensive as it was and there were reasons for spending that money (I myself bought one). The refinement, the butter smooth engine, the dream like handling, the niggle free ownership, the Yamaha reliability etc etc. Its all still there and I still adore my bike, but the V3 has crossed the line, it is waaay expensive and you still don't get the ABS. There are much better and more powerful bikes available now and they are just as refined and handle just as good.

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks for the reply. I see that NS and RS has almost the same power just the latter is more costly because of the fancy fairing.

I agree R15 is overpriced. RS200 seems like a good deal, however in the ownership experiences thread, I see a lot of issues with it and Gixxer seems to be more reliable and it also comes with FI and ABS.
I'm looking for a fairing bike and have a budget of around 1.5 Lacs, you think you can recommend something else? Thanks.

Reliability and niggle free ownership or power; that is the main dilemma. To be honest most of the people face this dilemma when looking for a bike. This is what kept me off the Duke 200 when I was looking for my bike in 2014. At the end, it comes to personal choice. Some people demand absolutely zero niggles from a bike and are ready to pay extra for it. I am one of those people and I compromised the power and acceleration of the Duke 200 and went for the R15V2, and it never gave me a reason to regret. Others are okay with a few small niggles here and there and are willing to overlook them in favor of power, the RS and the dukes are for people like those.

If your budget is 1.5 lakhs, and demand absolute best fit, finish and reliability, then yes the R15V3 will make sense(however overpriced it may be). But if you are short on money then you will have to make do with the RS200.

Regarding other options, I'm afraid we are short on the faired bikes right now. The market is flooded with Naked street bikes like the RTR160, RTR200, NS160, Duke250, Fz25. You have a lot of options to choose from the naked bikes, but not much if you want a fully faired one. Check out the Fazer 25 as well, it looks really odd to me and damn right ugly to most of the people, but looks and subjective (you might like it). And it will be unique thing on the road for at least a couple of months.

I honestly don't think there's much difference between 150 and 200 cc bikes in real world conditions, I'm a Gixxer owner and I feel it's quite punchy and refined at the same time for city riding, on the highway though it'll struggle above 100 kmph, handling is superb too, mine is a non abs carburetor version, can't comment on Yamaha bikes though. Only issue with it is the Headlight and hard gear box which is again a subjective thing. But if you want a bike for pure joy riding do consider twin cylinder bikes, those are on another level. good luck [emoji869]
