I’m finally planning to pick up my first big bike, which I intend to keep for about the next 5 to 7 years.
I’m 5 foot 7, on the lean side, so seat height and weight are factors I need to consider. The main purpose is street riding, at times I’ll take it to office, but mostly weekend rides. As I live in Noida, BIC will be visited after a couple of years, once I have saved up for a full leather suit and have some mileage under my belt.
I’ve got a list of shortlisted vehicles within my budget of 8.5 lacs, but am super confused overall due to some lack of knowledge (and also am overthinking I guess).
- Z650 – great seat height and weight, price is brilliant, but do not like the exhaust note and I think I might want something with more power in 3-4 years. Another huge concern is the poor and expensive Kawasaki after sales service and spares. (Delhi has only 1 outlet so far)
- Z900 – Kawasaki service is key negative, the bike is a bit on the bigger side for me, but yet to take a test ride. Doesn’t have any electronics, is fairly pricey. Otherwise looks and sounds great
- GSX S750 – great bike, bit heavy and marginally high seat, but super engine and sound. Loved the test ride. Only challenge is Suzuki service is charging a bomb – 6-7K every 4 months is the interval as per the dealer. That is just too much.
- Street Triple 765 S – looking for a second hand – else too pricey, rest seems brilliant. Any thoughts on their after sales and service cost and experience in Delhi? (one triumph in Kailash colony in particular – great sales guys and test ride experience)
- Honda CBR 650F – seems heavyish, and my first preference is a naked, but otherwise it has a lot going for it – Honda service and spares are also the cheapest I believe. Yet to take a test ride, but the showroom is closed on weekends…
I’m not considering Ducatis, as they are just way too expensive and have heard the spares and service costs are also extra high.
I would really appreciate viewpoints and suggestions that will help me in deciding what to go for. And am I worrying too much about the weight of the bike due to my inexperience? Is it something that is manageable once we get more used to and comfortable with the bike?
