  • Can't decide, Help me.

    Hi, my name is Dev
    Budget - 1.10 L max on road
    Age - 28
    Height- 5.9
    Weight- 79 kg
Intended use- Mostly commuting, twice in a month highway rides
    Fual efficiency- minimum 40kmpl
    City & Highways- 60city 40 highway
Daily run 20 kms in city and twice in a month 400 km round trip rides.
Currently living in town. So road conditions are not very good.

I did some research and now I've shortlisted 3 bikes. Gixxer naked, Hornet and Fzs.

Gixxer- Which i like the most. But i have some questions.
    What about long time reliability?
Since i live in town, service centre is not that good. At least that's I've heard about.

Hornet- is i feel a bit heavy.
    What about city ride handling.

Fzs- Lot of my friends have these bikes. Reliable too. But nearest service centre is 100km from my place

    Pillion comfort should be good.

    Please give suggestions.

Gixxers are the current best bet(IMO) in the 150 cc segment. There is also the newly released RTR 160 which is the most powerful one now. All these can be ridden in the city as they are made mostly for the city use. I'm not too sure about pillion comfort.

But is Gixxer reliable? What about after sales service, is it good?
My gf sits behind me most of the time so Gixxers seat will be no issue for her.
But its problem for my mother as sits one sided.
Not thinking about rtr. Service is crap in my area

All of these are reliable ones. The FZ's has been around for long time and we can still see the older models on the roads. The Hornet is a Honda. That's enough said to be reliable. The Gixxer is also reliable as my friend has one for more than 2 years. I've had it for 3-4 months with me too.
It all comes down to preference and after sales services.
Take a test drive of them to see which you prefer. Also do take into consideration the service centres as proper service is what keeps the bikes running for a very long time with no hassles.

Ok. Thanks . I've got a month in my hand before this purchase. So I'll be doing test drives of all these bikes.

              Hi Dev,
I have run my Gixxer for almost 38000 Kms in 2.5 years. Did not face a single mechanical issue till date. So yes, it is reliable. Since you will doing a major portion of your riding on bad roads, the Gixxer's adjustable rear suspension will be a good benefit.

After sales service is as good (or bad) as Yamaha or Honda. If you keep an eye out on the work being done on your bike during service, it's unlikely you will face any problems.

Thanks for responding. I've had doubts about Gixxer because i don't see Gixxers in my area very often. I saw 1 or 2 SFs but not naked versions.
                Is pillion seat comfortable?

As far as reliability and refinement is concerned, you will not go wrong with any one of the Japanese trio of Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. The differences if any will be too close to call. Coming to the pillion seat comfort, in my experience it's comfortable enough for short rides, say less than 50kms. Anything more than that will be uncomfortable at a stretch, especially on bad roads.

                  Hope this helps.
