Thanks for the reply. As i have finished my bachelors degree now i have enough time to spend on traveling now. So as per my likes the CBR 250R and the RE Himalayan is currently on the list. I know there is no comparison between those two. But i should get the RE Himalayan. There is a weird reason behind it! My parents are compelling me to get a Royal Enfield! Frankly I'm not a big fan of RE! The only 2 REs i like is the Continental GT & Himalayan. The GT is not a good tourer so the one left is Himalayan.

Buddy, if you think the CBR 250 engine is outdated, you are dead wrong. It's more advanced than the FZ25 and Dominar, more reliable than the KTM 390's. Now with the new LED's its a head turner too.

The Himalayan isn't a off roader! It's a soft roader. The frame will crack if you try anything fun. Don't let the looks fool you. As evident on the ownership thread, its a bit unstable on the corners and at speeds above 120 kmph due to its build. And it's got tubed tyres. Which is a total bummer. Just imagine conquering the mountains with it, ruling the trails, only to suffer a puncture and have to call RSA when you tried to park on the side of the road for that vada pav and chai.

One of the faults of the CBR is the the lack of tech. But do we really need a side stand sensor, gear indicator, shift rpm light when we can use our common sense to find out? The only thing that's required is ABS. Slipper clutch, only if you downshift from very high rpms, which is not of much use on the street, unless you have the habit of changing gears mid corner.

If you really want a Himalayan, go get one. However, since you're the guy who's going to ride, maintain the bike, it's better if you make the choice you feel right, not your parents or friends.

I've been riding the CBR250 for 5.5 years. Spare prices and labour have almost doubled since I bought it, but they last long. Sure, even CBR might have manufacturing defects, but they are quite rare, and most of it has been solved under warranty. So if you buy one, take the 5 year warranty.

Exactly also compression ratio is less comparatively to other performance bike, which results in lower heating, better refinement and longevity of the engine . Also refinement in cbr is supeeerrrrbbbbb [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

You had made me think bro. I know CBR is far better in every aspects in comparison with Himalayan. I'm not referring Himalayan as a offroader, but it has a higher ground clearance so i can worry less about the scraping while running through a ghat road. In the tarmac the CBR is a lot ahead than the Himalayan. And i need a motorcycle which can go almost anywhere. I don't need the best in performance! Or a cornering machine. I need a motorcycle which is more practical. The purpose is to travel almost anywhere, travel with less worry about the scraping etc. I don't need an ABS, or some cool technological stuffs. I know the CBR is a good tourer! But it is fully faired! Fairing can cost too much when broken! And plus the colours available now are damn shit!

You should check the upcoming xpluse 200 . It'll be a lot refined and trouble free bike than the Himalayan.

I've never heard of a CBR scraping while going through a ghat road. Many CBR have done Ladakh, Leh, Jispa without a problem. I've been to waterfalls where there were head sized rocks in place of a road, still made it with pillion. The only time I've scraped my bike is while crossing an underconstruction highway. Even then, nothing got damaged. And the fairing on the CBR is inexpensive, only 4-6k. I've fallen three times, and the fairings have taken it well. Only cracks, no major damage.

About practicality, you will find that tubeless tyres make a huge difference. Everybody faces punctures at some point in time, and getting stranded on the highway because of a flat tyre is way worse than scraping the exhaust a couple of times. Read up the Himalayan ownership thread. Check out the page where a guy had to tow his spanking new Himalayan the same day he purchased it because of a puncture. Not quite the adventure he was planning.

Why aren't you considering the new BMW 310 GS, I would rate it higher than the Himalayan with more tech with a decent amount of power or wait till next year the 390 adventure, but these bikes are not out n out off roading bikes unless you change the tyres.

for scraping-paranoids, add frame sliders to the bike
