  • Wish it was easy picking one... (350X vs D400)

So after contemplating for a while I decided on getting my first bike. I narrowed down my options to a White Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X and a Matte Black Dominar 400. Knowing about the RE booking and waiting fiasco I went ahead and booked the bike back in April and now finally they said a bike is available which means I can't prolong it anymore and have to make a decision...

I took a few test rides of both bikes and was comfortable with both. I know both belong to a different category and I also know that what RE offers isn't mentioned on the spec sheet and the Dominar is leaps ahead in terms of refinement, power and tech. Now this instead of making the decision easier has made it even more difficult..

Speaking of my usage, it will be mostly in Mumbai city traffic about 20-25kms daily and I definitely hope to go on long weekend rides or else I would have got an Activa [emoji14] I'm 26 and 6' tall with a heavy built.

I know what to expect from the Dominar 400 but don't know what to expect from the RE 350X. Here are few of my concerns:

    1. I have read online about the what a pain it is to own a RE. So I am kind of expecting it to break down on my way home itself after taking delivery. [emoji28] Jokes apart, I'm all for knowing my bike and maybe even fixing it myself once I aquire the skill but not at the cost of peace of mind. Is that peace of mind possible with the 350X if I do regular servicing?

    2. According to me the 350X looks stunning and definitely grabs eyeballs. In case of the Dominar the more I look at it the more I like it. Not the best first impression but it grows on you and I definitely dig the whole Matte Black appeal.

    3. The Dominar definitely is more fun to ride and the way it picks up speed puts a smile on my face but then the 350X let's you soak in the scenery. Do you guys think the 350X has enough power to overtake comfortably with and without a pillion on two lane highways?

    4. Maintaince cost and mileage is not that big of a factor for me. I'm happy with anything above 25kmpl. Maintaince cost no matter which bike I choose from the two will definitely be much cheaper than my car so I'm happy on that front as well. But anything I need to watch out for?

The 350X is the bike I want to be seen with and the Dominar 400 is the bike I like being with.

Waiting to hear from you guys..

    Battle of heart and mind.

    Approved.

Normally, I'd like to go with the one who i like to be with and not who I look good with!

Definitely get the bike you like being with.
The numbers and specs shouldn't come into play here, pick the bike which makes you feel good, not the bike that makes you look good.

Re: Wish it was easy picking one... (350X vs D400)

So guys a turn of events...

After making up my mind, and getting a confirmation from the showroom, I went to make the payment on a rainy Monday morning of Mumbai with the same enthusiasm as that of a kid who is about to get his first bicycle.

So when I got there I was greeted by two freshly delivered bikes with the colour of my choice parked at the entrance. Excitement levels grew! Then they asked for my booking form and after checking it they dropped a bomb saying 'Sorry we won't be able to give you the bike yet as they have to first complete bookings before 15th April and mine is after that date.'
Now this really put me off.
No points for guessing which bike I'm talking about.

With everything working against RE I just got frustrated and cancelled my booking and embraced the idea of getting myself a 🖤 Dominar 400.

One day, some day.. I would love to own a RE if they sell me one that is...

I Should get my Dominar in a week's time and look forward to some adventures along with it.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

congratulations on your new bike. i believe it was good that you did not get the 350X on time and you went ahead with the D400. The D400 is far more refined than the 350X and RE has to upgrade in leaps and bounds if it wants to catch with the technology of modern day bikes.

Small tip: if you feel a small buzz in the engine while riding the bike in the first few days just don't worry, this buzz is gone after the 1st servicing/engine oil change. And the WHIZZ of D400 will surely turn heads.

            Happy hyper-riding.

            Cheers
