    hi friends,
i have gone through all relevant posts in the section but am still undecided.
    here goes my requirement:
I have a victor ( won't be sold) for regular use.
Want to buy a bike in june it's my last year at college & future is very uncertain. donno where will i land up
for 1 year i wanan enjoy a new bike
will be bought in ahmedabad in june 1st week.
mostly used for long trips - mt abu, udaipur, jaipur, diu etc. hope to do a leh one whenever luck allows.

Why a bullet: am buying a bike after alomost 7 years, don't want to buy R15, zma which my friends have & i cant afford anything above 1.5L. that leaves me wity the bullet ( i know its illogical, maintenance extensive, less efficient..but guys everyone buys rational stuff... if illogical things are made some gotta buy the..one shouldn't apply too much logic to love..leave it for job & career

i always wanted to buy the electra ( haven't really driven it much) but recently used a TBTS & am bowled over by it ( inspite of the bad build quality & ither niggles)
The bike will be used mostly in the first year only but will never be sold off.
    Pose value is irrelevant.
    most imp things are:
ride comfort with pillion ( i am gonna have some real interesting imported ones for sure )
FE ( not much but shouldn't be terrible)
thump ( i want it please as much as possible)
in the long run i would also like like to modify the bike a lot ( loves the Cafe racers on the forum)
    VFM

Should i go for a bullet or something else ( i want desperately..having dreams of a new bike ..pleading with mommy everyday)
a little OT: alternatively can i get a f650 for around 1.5L & is it worth buying

my thoughts as of now :
Std 350 : great but i don't think i am gud enough to do justice to it's legacy plus the gears
electra 5s: i think its the pocick of the lot but is it as comfy as TBTS
TBTS: its my 1st preference now but Electra is as comfortable i m game for it. Thump missing but a l'il mod will help
Machismo 350: ( yeah its on sale) great pose value but is worth the premium over electra! no thump
UCE classic: oops i 4got, some consider indians poor & not worth it ( i seriously think such people $uCk big time)

My next bike ( whenever it comes1 yr 5 yrs, 20yrs) gonna be a sbk ;again won't be sold.

    Guys , kindly help out

    TIA,
    vikram
    Regards
    Vikram

      Simple..

      Its As Simple As Rain.
      If you want reliability, Style, More Chrome, Good Mileage, Big comfy Seat, No oil leakages, No frequent trips to workshop (Actually None) & any comfort you can expect from any reliable Mate... Blindly go for TBTS. {But still wait for the run in period to get over. do maintain those 60 Kph Speed limits till 2nd Service cuz after that you will be in more love with it everyday. Believe Me}

Still if you want to go for Shear Power, old School Charms, Thump & not anything else then go for Machismo 500cc.

See my friend, some 3 Months back i was also going through the same phase what u might be going. Confused I guess. But i give a country against my promise, Go for TBTS any day. Well i did that. Btw at the end of the day, Go with your Heart, Whatever your heart says. You will feel satisfied.

      Till Then
      Keep Thumping.........

I dunno whether you have read my replies in other people who have had such queries... A bull is something that needs to be caressed, cherished and enjoyed... As to the model - don't get into specs, don't listen to suggestions - I have a STD, have friends with all other models - everything is as much pain as is a pleasure...

Just walk into the showroom - either at the SG highway or Indra Nagar (pref. Indra Nagar - as the SG highway guy is a rip-off), take a test ride of all the models... One of them will scream and make you so confortable that you woudn't want to think of anything else - you will be blown away by one of the models - take it, pay the bill and ride home!!! You'd have arrived home in a BULL for LIFE... Trust me - that's what I did and so did a lot of my friends... and all of us along with our machines are happy now!!!

                Vikram,

IMHO, test ride all the Enfields, from the STD350 to the LB500, preferably for 20KM+ with a mix of highway and town riding. Like they say, a bull picks it's owner and you will get hooked to one model and then, there is no looking back. I did the same and it worked for me. Started out chasing a TBTS, moved onto the Electra 5S and fially ended up plonking my money for the Machismo LB500. Why? Because the LB500 has TORQUE and plenty of it. If launched right, a well maintained-ridden LB500 can out accelerate any production Indian motorcycle. Also, the highway riding manners are impeccable as with any Enfield. An added bonus is the better handling when compared to the cruiseresque TBTS.

Here is my take on the Enfield's
STD350: British bike - period motorcycling - with that distinct thump and feel(no substitute)
Electra 5S: A bullet with great feel/decent thump and very few niggles(TCI and ES makes life very easy)
Machismo 350: Good pick up and very reliable(among Enfields) and great head turning ability.
Machismo 500: Good reliability(minus the sprag clutch) and the best pick up and top speed among bulls.
TBTS: A engine that doesn't need too much TLC and handling that is a little more cumbersome in the city/twisties.

Please feel free to PM me of you have any other queries.

                Cheers,
                Jay

                  He meant the pillions !!

The bullets of the moment is definitely the TBTS. I took a test ride of the Electra and TBTS and frankly found Electra having a better comfort ! But the TBTS has a newer more modern engine.

But be prepared to have an odd nag and niggle ! My friend bought a TBTS and engine oil leaked within 2 weeks. Has already got the brake pads, speedometer and headlight replaced under warrenty. So basically you got to spend time on the Bulls.

But all said and done, TBTS is it ! Or if you really want the Electra, you cud wait for a few months. They will introduce the TwinSpark engine across the range starting with the Electra.
Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

                          thanks a lot

thanks a lot dear friends. I would go with ur suggestions. Go to the showroom & take test drives & buy what my heart says ( u buy bullets with heart & not brain).i m ready to all oil leakage issues..love demands care
most probably its gonna be the TBTS

@ goat: bro S.G. is closer to my place vastrapur. but as you suggest i'll locate the one at indra nagar.
one question: can the silencer a TBTS be changed without voiding warranty ( can the showroom guy help )

About imported ones: a lot of exchange girls ( mostly europe) keep coming to my college every term. I have taken them around a lot on my tattered victor.
Its not really difficult as long as they are in your course...lol

Yupp you can. It'd cost 1000 bucks ! And can be done at shpwroom itself and won't void warrenty !
