  • Ninja 300 or Yamaha R3

    Hi guys,

As you all know Ninja 300 has been launched at just 2.98 lacs, now R3 is more expensive with 3.48 lacs Ex-Showroom. I want to buy one of them. The issue is R3 has a good ground clearance of 160mm while it doesn't have slipper clutch, Ninja 300 on other hand has low price tag but has very low gc of 135mm. I will ride mostly in the city. There are lots of bumps so I am afraid of serious damage to engine in Ninja 300. Its not always possible to slow down on bumps as they are not white coloured. So you end up scraping bottom of Ninja 300. Also it is costly with a Jaipur only service centre. I am from Jodhpur, so if any serious damage is done to the Ninja 300 due to low gc, I'll have to go that far.

Please suggest me if the low gc in ninja 300 is not a big deal? Is that minimum gc? i.e. if I ride with a pillion will it be even lower.
Which bike should I go for? R3 has only issue of high price and no slipper clutch. Is it possible that now R3 will also reduce its price with relaunch of R3 with slipper clutch?
    Ninja 300 owners please help.

    Thanks
    Shrawan

R3 in my opinion as ninja has also reduced quality along with the price tag, the bike comes with mrfs!! So in my opinion r3 is the bike to go for.. Plus Yamaha's refined engineering... And take a TD of both the bikes yourself nn then your heart will tell you the answers as to which bike to go for.

Would you rather live without a slipper clutch? Or would you rather scrape the underbelly often and take it all the way to another city for repairs and even regular service?

In a similar boat but with a slightly different problem.
Neither Yamaha nor Kawasaki give test ride of these bikes.
Triumph and HD are far better that way.

I am also from Pune. I test rode it twice.
1st time at Monarch Yamaha. That was a short one within the city speeds but I was riding it alone. No sales representative as pillion.
2nd at Spirit Yamaha. This time I request them to let me ride it between Chandani Chowk to Baner on the Mumbai- Banglore Highway.
This time, it was with sales representative as a pillion. This is the ride that has sealed the deal for me for R3. I am yet to buy it though.

                          Cost of spares my friend!

R3 costs a bomb (in terms of Indian value of money mindset), but parts are prized at a reasonable cost.
And from what I have read about R3 on the ownership thread, the cost of maintaining it is pretty low.

Can R3 owners and Ninja 300 owners please provide the normal service cost till warranty period ? That will enable us to logically decide on which bike we should book.

                            Thanks in advance guys...
