  • Need help in deciding a touring cum daily commuter bike

    Hey friends,
I currently own a RE TBTS 350. I want another touring cum daily commuter bike. The criteria is comfort, power, touring capabilities and value for money.

I’m 6’ weighing 86 kgs. I ride long distance twice a year with weekly traffic rides of around 200 kms.

My first choice was versys 650 but due to many reasons, I no longer want that much power.

My choice is Ninja 300. Is the sitting posture comfortable owing to my height and weight? What will happen when BS VI norms kick in? I heard the model will be discontinued. How will it affect spare parts availability?

Please guide this extremely confused guy. My budget is maximum 4.00 lakhs.

      Hi,

In your suggested budget level, the upcoming Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 twins will be your best bet. Next month international media rides begin and from October bookings open with first batch of deliveries from November hopefully. Price will not exceed ₹3.5 lakhs on road mostly. If you don't mind waiting this will be worthy upgrade for you I reckon.

If there was a Yamaha MT-03 for sale in India ot would have full filled your requirements easily but sadly not available, only the R3.

Ninja 300 is also good machine but it's a 5 year old product, highly reliable though. Also the riding posture would be way too aggressive when compared to that relaxed cruising posture of your Thunderbird.

      Cheers!

I agree on all the points made by you. But I’m kind of scared of new model REs, looking at the fiasco they created with early batches of Himalayan.

Tourer plus daily commuter plus vfm.. have you considered the cost of replacing panels of the ninja 300, or any Kawasaki? It's pretty hard on the wallet. You don't need 200 kmph speed? Then a CBR 250 or a Dominar would suffice. ABS versions ofcourse. The Apache 310 RR is also pretty good at commuting, due to its excellent traction at low revs.

Any of these bikes would be much more fun, powerful, safe than the bike you ride now.

Yes your skepticism is valid. This is the first time I'm also looking forward towards a Royal Enfield launch.

A friend of mine who is working inside the plant told me that since April they are running trial production runs to get the quality control right this time, that's why we are seeing the frequent postponement of the launch, to do away with as many niggles as possible.

They can't afford another Himalayan debacle. Hopefully this time they will be getting it right.

Lets see, and keep our fingers crossed. Although read somewhere that RE is launching Himalayan ABS by September
