  • Help buying a scooter

Hi guys, this is my first time posting, and it's awesome to be a part of a huge community like this one!
I want to buy a scooter for commuting to college on, it's 17Kms away (approx.) and my budget is around 70k ( the lesser the better, but would consider going over if the features are worth the price).

I understand that this is meant to be a motorcycle forum, but all guidance is appreciated

I had the TVS Jupiter and Hero Aviator in mind, since they fit the criteria and give good mileage (as I've heard)

    1. Budget: 60k to 70k rupees (on road), willing to go over a little bit
    2. Age: 19
    3. Height: 5'10''
    4. Weight: 85kgs
    5. Intended usage: College commute, Weekend recreation riding, will hit the highway during exams
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement Above 50kmpl
    7. City & Highway percentage usage Mostly city usage, rarely on a highway
    8. City / Town Hyderabad
    9. Brand / Bike type preference No preference as such, but definitely not scooter on the slimmer side like the Hero Pleasure.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

Brother, honestly there is not much to choose from scooters as they are essentially the same and all of them are similar.

The only thing you can choose is engine 110cc or 125 cc. These two are most common engines that come on gearless scoots.

Your shortlisted ones TVS Jupiter and Honda Aviator are both good options. Take test rides and choose the one that you feel most comfortable on.

Honda Dio, Yamaha Ray-Z and TVS Ntorq, Hero Maestro are some funky and cool looking scoots. Check them out as well, they are fun for college going kids.

If you have any specific queries, let us know.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thank you! I'm really concerned about their fuel efficiency, so it'll be amazing if you could recommend the top 3 fuel efficient scooters in the 110cc category.

        Have a good day!

          Re: Help buying a scooter

I would recommend the following scooters according to your height and weight

1)TVS ntorq: price will be higher than 70 k somewhere around 76k but worth the money good pickup, bike like exhaust and pickup.

2)Yamaha ray zr street rally: price 71 to 73k onroad depending on city good looks super refined yamaha engine good mileage around 40 to 45

Jupiter and aviatior are more like a family scooters plus they won't suit your height you can have a look at suzuki access also if you are willin to go for jupiter or aviator

For maximum fuel efficiency, TVS Jupiter should be the first choice, Honda Aviator comes second and Hero maestro would be third.

Though your riding habits, the road conditions and the traffic situation in your city play a major role in fuel efficiency. If your daily route is fill with traffic jams, or have so many speed breakers that you have to brake every 110 meters; then any scooter will give less mileage as compared to the same scooter that cruises at 55-60 kmph for the whole route.

If you ride hard ie. accelerate hard from stand still, keep up the speed and then brake hard when you reach the next red light, you will get low mileage as compared to if you accelerate gently to your cruising speed, and if you spot a red light 200 meters ahead, release the throttle and let it coast so that speed comes down from 60 to 30 or 25 and then brake to come to complete stop. You will get much better mileage, longer tire life and longer brake shoe life using the second riding style.

So don't worry too much about fuel efficiency, any scoot you choose will serve you well if you ride it properly and every one of those will give low mileage if you ride them like a racing bike.

TVS Jupiter, just get it and you won't regret it.

I would choose the Jupiter any day over any scooter under 70K. Comfort, Handling, Ride quality, Plastic quality, reliability. Almost 50K kms experience and zero issues. Honda has the smoothest engine. But except that, nothing beats the Jupiter.

Yes, for these reasons i sold aviator and bought jupiter. Comfort is missing in all honda scooters, the suspension is too stiff.
