Welcome to xBhp Forums v2020

Welcome to 2020 Edition of the xBhp Forums . As you might have already noticed, the forums have undergone a major upgrade to keep up with the times. This will make the forums faster and intuitive and much more mobile friendly.

    But, need to stiffen the pre-load a bit to account for the increased load and drag.

      Quick update -

      Yesterday noon, I had a quick recap on what Dual Channel ABS and Slipper Clutch can do for you. I would have definitely had a fall without that tech to save my arse!

      I was returning from a Breakfast ride (not my thing but that's another story) and was on winding roads with nice ups and downs. I was riding fast, but not crazily so, because of light traffic. I was being followed by a couple of Dukes. Anyway, there was a reasonably long left hander that starts easy, and then significantly tightens as it exits with a downward slope (lovely road designers). Not being very familiar with that road, I misjudged the tightening of the exit needless to say the road wasn't banked either.

      So, I was leaned in a bit, looking into the line I need to be taking, when I realised that I had carried too much speed into that curve. To make matters 'interesting', there was a generous sprinkling of broken tar rubble. In a split second I knew I am seconds from crashing into the median! Within a second I had kicked down 2 gears (4>3>2), was 2-fingering my front brake and just brushing the rear pedal. Both wheels were going sideways, for significantly longer than I was comfortable with, before I managed to find traction few inches from the median, gently accelerated and managed to exit the curve in one piece.

      In retrospect, what saved me from falling:
      1. The correct line of entry (although incorrect speed). I had started the entry at nearly the outer edge of the road and my line allowed for wide sweep. Had I started more towards the middle, I wouldn't have had the 2 second buffer.
      2. Ability to use engine braking as the primary deceleration which reduced dependence on brakes.
      3. And of course, the dual channel brakes that allowed for different pulsing, which I could feel in those 2 seconds.

      Both my co-riders stopped me a little ahead of that curve, and told me that for a while they were sure they were looking at a crash with my RC going sideways towards the median. I didn't realise it was that close, until they described what they saw.

      Lesson learnt - Take it easy on unknown roads.

        Glad you escaped crashing and I can tell you that I have suffered much worse with a broken arm & elbow on a similar type of nasty curve at the beginning of Chorla ghat a few years ago.

          Glad to know you're alright. An uncle of mine had been in a similar situation in the khambatki ghat. Though he did not live to tell the story...
