  • Good Bike with pillion comfort for Touring

    Hi

I am looking for a bike with good pillion comfort which I use it for regular office commute in the city and weekend tours once in a month Max of 250 kms.
    **************
    1. I am 6ft tall and 90kg
    2. I live in Bangalore
    3. Interested in bikes with less maintenance , hassle free ride.
    4. Not interested in power cruiser, interested in relaxed riding at 80-90kms/hr
    5. Budget - Up to 2 lakhs.
    6. I can wait for few months if auto manfacturers are launching ABS version of vehicles

    ************
    Bikes in mind
    ************
    1. RE Thunderbird 350x
    2. RE classic 350 ABS (cons - no tubeless tires, vibrations, maintenance).
    3. Dominar 400
    4. Hero Xtreme 200r
    5. FZ 25

Topic approved, moved to What Bike? Section.

You can go for either 3, 4 or 5 that you mentioned.

For all around purpose, Hero Xtreme 200R is your best bet.

Only if you're more into high speed intercity touring (say 50%+ time you're on highways only), then Dominar should do awesome. For city its powerful and torquey but the higher weight has to managed by rider at low speeds, which may get tiring on long commutes and might take its toll in the long run...

Xtreme 200R would be my final suggestion. It can manage 250 kms tours easily in my opinion if you ride in a relaxed manner.. Get its ABS version for better safety, but I think its single channel ABS, only for the front wheel. Check this...

Maybe FZ25 ABS is going to be launched in 2019... can't be sure about it.

Re: Good Bike with pillion comfort for Touring

      I suggest the below

      Dominar:
      Has ABS, powerful bike.
More refined than a DUKE 390.
      Comfortable ride for rider.

      Cons:
Not so comfortable for pillion (Still better than R15 or R3)
Fuel Economy may be a challenge

      FZ25:
      Refined Engine.
      decent power.
Comfortable riding position (feels like a cycle)
Better fuel economy because of smaller engine as compared to Dominar

      Cons:
Some have reported reliability issues in the FZ25 ownership thread. Not sure how widespread it may be.

I would suggest FZ150 CC model as its an old, tried and tested engine with new features like rear disc brake and Fuel Injection.

You can always buy Ride-on-Air seat cushion for pillion comfort on any bike.
Hero Honda Splendor (June 2001- Present)
      Yamaha YZF R3 (Jan 2016 - Present)
      TVS Scooty Zest 110 (Oct 2017 - Apr 2018)
      TVS Ntorq 125 (May 2018 - Apr 2019)
      KTM Duke 125 (Apr 2019 - Dec 2019)

Go for xtreme . You'll get the most comfortable seat in xtreme in 150 to 200cc segment, smooth engine ( unicorn 150 / achiever 150 derived engine), low maintenance cost, abs, low end torque for city, easy seating posture, availability of parts, low price ( hornet abs costs more than xtreme [emoji23]) .xtreme is Perfect motorcycle for your requirements.[emoji14]

          1. RE Thunderbird 350x
          2. RE classic 350 ABS (cons - no tubeless tires, vibrations, maintenance).
          3. Dominar 400
          4. Hero Xtreme 200r
          5. FZ 25

          I prefer Thunderbird 350X

          Pros:
Comfy rider position as it is still a cruiser in design
Comfy and softer Pillion seat (Need to fix the Back rest)
ALLOY WHEELS and TUBELESS (Biggest concern in RE Bikes)
Very good for cities with shorter handlebars

          Cons:

Old RE platform which vibrates a LOT
Bit higher maintenance (Will be lesser than other RE modes though)

Note: Dominar is a grt vehicle but it is lacking pillion comfort.

Shortlist and take a test ride with your pillion or rent a bike before buying it.

          Regards
          Bala

Re: Good Bike with pillion comfort for Touring

I would prefer thunderbird 350 instead of 350x
As 350x provides a bit sporty handlebars and the pillion seat is not up to that mark unlike the 350
Rest all above mentioned factors are legit considering.

Re: Good Bike with pillion comfort for Touring

I would recommend the Dominar 400 for your future bike. Because it has more than enough torque and power for city commutes, as well as for any weekend getaways. Pillion comfort will be compromised to a small extend, because the seat is pretty wide yet little hard. But an after market cushioning could prove to be the best investment for the pillion.

No hate to RE owners, but I am not that inclined towards choosing a RE because of the reliability if parts. And the vibes too.

FZ 25 is refined and smooth as well. But the bike doesn't get ABS. Which could be a potential strike-down on your list.

Can't comment much on the 200R because haven't much about it's reliability or other capabilities.
Life is short. Make it count.

Just go for Dominor 400, it has ABS and does touring well. If you can wait for the new version, it'll be well refined with more ground clearance.
